Description

Clear amber colour, half inch of creamy ecru-ish off-white head; aroma of, toffee, grainy, apple peel, some dried apricot, soy sauce and Belgian yeasty notes; taste of a typical Belgian ale with similar notes to the aroma; quite enjoyable

Review based on the BJCP2021 (style 26B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 43 07:52 (BB 28/11/23). AROMA: low metallic note, followed by slight cardboard and caramel. APPEARANCE: deep red-amber body with orange highlights and clear. medium light brown head, creamy, with good retention. TASTE: initial medium-high caramelly sweet note, slight cardboard, slight toasty malt. initial low perceived bitterness that evolves into an odd sweet and bitter finish with a slight botter aftertaste. MOUTHFEEL: medium body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: an NA version a bit too much sweet in the mouth with the bitterness starting to show a bit too late.

Poured from the tap as part of a taste of Belgium flight @ Brussels airport. Haven’t had this since pre-ratebeer. Clear gold with small white head. Belgian yeast, esters, decent, what you would expect.

Poured from the tap as part of a taste of Belgium flight @ Brussels airport. Last time I had this was pre-ratebeer. Clear mahogany brown with small off white head. Metallic note prevalent on the nose, mild toasted nut quality, mild caramel malt. Meh.

2017 edition, almost six years old, in Kulminator, with my old man, celebrating his 75th birthday. An (almost ruby) amber pour, crystal-filtered, with a grayish foamy head that lasts but a second. Aroma is intense strawberry, redcurrant, honey, candied sugar. It still boasts a nice carbonation. Sweetish onset, crisp tongue, medium body. Medium-lasting finish with great bitterness. It has aged surprisingly well (then again, this is Leen and Dirk at Kulminator.)
