About
De Abdij van Leffe, opgericht in 1152, was een norbertijnenabdij waar kanunniken in een gemeenschap samenleefden met bijzondere aandacht voor opvang en gastvrijheid. In 1240 besloten de kanunniken een brouwerij te bouwen om een gezonde en versterkende drank te bereiden. Door de Franse Revolutie werd abdij gesloten. Pas in 1929 werd de abdij heropgericht. In 1952 besloten abt Nys en Albert Lootvoet de brouwtraditie en de goedbewaarde receptuur van Leffe te hervatten. In 1954 al werd Brouwerij Artois hoofdaandeelhouder van Brouwerij Lootvoet. De productie werd in 1977 overgeheveld naar Brouwerij Grade in Mont-Saint-Guibert, tot de sluiting in 1996. Tegenwoordig wordt Leffe gebrouwen bij de brouwerij van Stella Artois in Leuven.

Bottled. Pours out a clean blond color, underneath a head of whipped egg white. Smell gives initial impression of Belgian sugar, but then a good "beery" smell comes in. Taste is the usual sugary Belgian at first, then the slightly sharp European hop note becomes noticeable. Goes down nicely, if a little gassy. Still tends nicely toward the abbey ale style than some Jever clone.

Dark amber with a medium lasting head. Fresh aroma of malt, citrus and raspberries. Well balanced flavour that begins (berry-) sweet and then turns dry and hoppy, but not really distinct in any way. At a reasonable price it’s a bargain, but it’s far from the best strong Belgians. Aged tasting, best before November 07, tasted November 07: Aroma is very similar. Flavour is slightly oxidized, (rasp)berry clearly dominates the hops now, mouthfeel is big and fat.

33cl bottle from Auchan, Calais. Goldenwith tight white lasting had. Yeast, golden syrup, hop nose. Full and sweet in mouth. Very hoppy finish, some nice sweet orange fruit too. Fruit and caramel finish. Quite hopy really, zingy and zesty

Dark ruby colour, big head. Fruity aroma, with a yeasty tone. Big, creamy mouthfeel, bit spicy with good amount of hops.

Bottle. I’m not a huge fan of this one. Darker yellowish color. I loved the aroma, but to me it was just way too dry and the finish was to be desired.

Wonderfull head fully lasting, fantastic aroma intense beer, brown colour, mouthfeeling very good. This is what good beer is about. Tasted it after 3 apr. 3,2 beers and it is better!!!!!!

Abbey de Abbey Belgian style-12 oz bottle-pours a thick white foamy head and the color is golden. Aroma is musty. Flavor is good for class, although a little on the light side. It tastes creamy, then cinnamon/banana comes through. Finishes OK.
