I was surprised by the quality of this beer. Gold. Heavy palate, has a syrup quality. Flavors are sweet with hops.

Found in Grandpa’s fridge. Yellow, No aroma. Barely detectable taste of hops. Flavorless, but at least it is strong.

From a can, but I failed to check whether it was a nitro’d can - but as a US domestic malt liquor, I doubt it. (in any case, this style of beer would be the one and only style where I'd welcome the nitro effect) Nevertheless it had an amazingly light and fluffy body, remarkably lacking fusels and esters of other high gravity lagers. Very smooth, with a bright yellow color and large true head. Very light and bland of course, with a light bittterness. Easily the best malt liquor ever! (can indicated Melanie Brewing Co., Portage IN, who I googled contracts their brands to City Brewery)

Standard economy beer. Drink it ice cold. Just a trace of beer flavor. Only one reason to drink this.

Light amber colour...looks too drinkable to be a malt liquor. Cidery aroma is a nice start, but the body is light, and after a faint ciderraunch note it gets very watery. Too bland - it just doesn't have that "kick you in the nuts" character that I look for in a good malt liquor.

Aroma of port and coffee. The taste also had port and coffee, with some chocolate and roasted malt flavor. Medium bodied. Surprisingly good.

So I felt the need to class up my list of ratings with the one, and only (as far as I know, anyway), can of beer with a magnificent walleye painting! This lager has above average flavor for the style. In fact, LaCrosse lager is clearly above repulsive status. And, did I mention, there's a damned fish on the can? Holy shit!

Canned. I want to say something nice about the folks at City Brewery, who worked hard to keep the yeast active at the brewery after Pabst/Stroh’s bought out the Old Style name and closed them down. In fact, this is a pretty decent American lager. Pouring from the can gives a nice fluffy head that remains for most of the drink. The usual straw color is no surprise. Can’t find anything wrong with the taste, which is okay considering its Wisconsin-cheap price. Definitely recommend this as your basic lawnmower beer.
I took this to my brewclub meeting with the current Old Style to see how they stacked up against each other. Even in tiny sample glasses, sitting warming on a picnic table, we had no difficulty picking out this as the better beer (though truthfully, not much better).

Porter is as porter does? Winter Porter is admittedly bland, but it is by no means a bad beer. Roasted notes give way to a subtle sweetness. The body is too thin, and the aroma and flavor are simply not very complex.

Not half-bad. Pours orange, with slight hops aroma and a balanced flavor of malts and hops. Pleasant and inoffensive.
