Bottle. Beware: Hard wax layer breaking in a lot of tiny pieces. Color: Dark mirky brown, thin beige head, with some tiny red wax pieces. Aroma: Malty, peat. Taste: Malty, slightly sourish, peaty Whiskey notes. Medium body, below average carbonation. Light sweetness and bitterness. Some caramel malt and dark malt. Interesting combination of base beer and barrel, was hoping for more but it doesn't work out very well, unfortunately.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Smooth wheat with banana, spicy yeast, coriander, touch of mango. Moderate sweet and light bitter. Medium body. Fruity and wheaty, not overboard on the mango fortunately.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is unexpectedly peachy, ripe sugary fruit, malt, some spicy notes. Flavour is on the sweet side with low bitterness. Medium body. Sweet with ripe sugary fruit, not my thing.

The label on the 33 cl bottle instructs “Drink it…while listening to an old, crackling vinyl jazz record” I’ve got Birdland from Weather Report cued up and ready to play. A quadrupel I obtained from Smaakhuis, the cap is off and I pour inside of my large Straffe Hendrik snifter. A dark coffee brown liquid with a very fine skim of eggshell tan foam. The nose has the classic quad vibe of ripe fruit, grain, malt and yeast. I lift the glass and have a drink. Nice. Raisins, leather, malt, a touch of syrup, brown bread, candi sugar, chocolate, subdued vanilla, dates and dark chocolate. Flavorful, chewy and a bit bitter. A good quad makes me smile.
