Description
Brass Castle commenced brewing in a garage as a commercial home brewer in August 2011 initially in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. In December 2013 they relocated to Malton, North Yorkshire and expanded to a 10BBL plant. Over time, new tanks arrived and a Taphouse was established next door. Success, friends, family and the odd bank loan have got us where we are now.

The brewery has always pushed itself to brew interesting beers, under the very deliberate constraint of doing so without the use of animal products. In turn, this caused Brass Castle to develop a house yeast strain and specialised processes that could guarantee the final product. From December 2017, every beer brewed at Brass Castle has been based on a gluten-free beer recipes – on the basis that beer should be made available to as many people as possible. Most recently, the brewery invested in canning line and carbonation tanks, to spread the beers further than they have gone before.

Can. Just a light haze on this gold beer, a good bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, a little thin, sweet enough and clean. Idaho 7 hops eh? Almost a stalwart these days. And the great thing is, unlike Galaxy, Nelson, Mosaic and a few others, it does not seem to have changed character as it's grown in popularity and probably, inevitably, outgrown its original terroir. Smooth bright cooling pine on top of that light but bright citrus and tropical fruits melange. Orange, tangerine, mango, little lime and plenty more, all wonderfully integrated and with a very mild candy edge. No Mosaic or HBC630 sweetness here, just that light candy edge. Nice showcase for a wonderful hop. Juicy hop fruity piney linger.

12/4/2024. Cask at the 11th Isle of Man Beer & Cider Festival. Pours an unexpected clear dark gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma is very fruity, fruit salad, raspberry, pineapple, citrus, vanilla custard, corn. Quite sweet with mild bitterness. Medium body, oily, soft carbonation. Curiously enjoyable.
