Description
Brass Castle commenced brewing in a garage as a commercial home brewer in August 2011 initially in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. In December 2013 they relocated to Malton, North Yorkshire and expanded to a 10BBL plant. Over time, new tanks arrived and a Taphouse was established next door. Success, friends, family and the odd bank loan have got us where we are now.
The brewery has always pushed itself to brew interesting beers, under the very deliberate constraint of doing so without the use of animal products. In turn, this caused Brass Castle to develop a house yeast strain and specialised processes that could guarantee the final product. From December 2017, every beer brewed at Brass Castle has been based on a gluten-free beer recipes – on the basis that beer should be made available to as many people as possible. Most recently, the brewery invested in canning line and carbonation tanks, to spread the beers further than they have gone before.

Today's ales have been brought to you by the January Rail Sale, I got a cheap ticket to York and back for some ales that at pint level the beer is more expensive!!! This penultimate beer of the day is amber-brown but very much the latter. A black IPA certainly, with a very dark malt character brew exemplified by tropical fruit in both aroma and taste.

One of those beers I've seen many times so had thought I'd tried it before now. Glad I actually checked this time. A slightly deeper coloured beer with a bit of a glow, the German styling is decent, with its depth and body the main to compare, in flavour it's a little more hoppy to indigenous ways of brewing.

Wigan Beer Festival 2026, Beer#25. Mildly hazed slightly deeper golden coloured brew. The festival's low alcohol brew, but one of the fruitiest I've tasted so far, not feeling its strength for it. Its full of exotic notes and apricot, which has a full-on aroma here.

Wetherspoon Beer Festival Night Out first afterthought. Debunked from Spoons to The Baum for this light golden starter of three, an easy hopped session, slightly weaker tasting but ok. Mild tropical fruits get a lookin against a more watery character.

440ml can from Cat in the Glass. Gluten Free. Dark chestnut brown colour, foamy beige head leaving lacing and aroma of malt, chocolate, ashy, coffee, vanilla. Taste is sweet, chocolatey, malty, roasty, with coffee, biscuit, vanilla, and earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying roasted bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.
