Description
Brass Castle commenced brewing in a garage as a commercial home brewer in August 2011 initially in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. In December 2013 they relocated to Malton, North Yorkshire and expanded to a 10BBL plant. Over time, new tanks arrived and a Taphouse was established next door. Success, friends, family and the odd bank loan have got us where we are now.
The brewery has always pushed itself to brew interesting beers, under the very deliberate constraint of doing so without the use of animal products. In turn, this caused Brass Castle to develop a house yeast strain and specialised processes that could guarantee the final product. From December 2017, every beer brewed at Brass Castle has been based on a gluten-free beer recipes – on the basis that beer should be made available to as many people as possible. Most recently, the brewery invested in canning line and carbonation tanks, to spread the beers further than they have gone before.

Can at home in Hackney picked up from HOTM. Pours clear burnt gold with a creamy, off-white head. Light to medium sweet, lots of toasted bread, a little dough, light artificial notes, some cherry notes, vanilla, sugary almond, light leafy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, more cherry impressions, leaves, doughy bread, toasted biscuits, orange rind. Novel stuff, but it doesn't rise much above novelty status.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - yellow to orange with a big fluffy white head. Nose - orange and passion fruit. Not sure there's a carrot note but there is if you tell yourself. Taste - again elusive but possibly there, carrot. Orange peel, dried mango. Palate - light bodied, tangy texture. The tang on the finish is a wee bit challenging. Overall - ok.
