Description
Brass Castle commenced brewing in a garage as a commercial home brewer in August 2011 initially in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. In December 2013 they relocated to Malton, North Yorkshire and expanded to a 10BBL plant. Over time, new tanks arrived and a Taphouse was established next door. Success, friends, family and the odd bank loan have got us where we are now.
The brewery has always pushed itself to brew interesting beers, under the very deliberate constraint of doing so without the use of animal products. In turn, this caused Brass Castle to develop a house yeast strain and specialised processes that could guarantee the final product. From December 2017, every beer brewed at Brass Castle has been based on a gluten-free beer recipes – on the basis that beer should be made available to as many people as possible. Most recently, the brewery invested in canning line and carbonation tanks, to spread the beers further than they have gone before.

440ml can. Gluten Free. Amber reddish brown colour, white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of fruity, tropical, citrusy hop. Taste is malty, toffee, bready, with fruity hop, earthy bitterness and some salty notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying finish. Quite drinkable.

Keg @ Tap and Can. Pours clear gold. Grassy citrus and very light mango on the nose. Very light flavour profile overall, balanced and gently sweet. File in the refreshing thirst-quencher box.

440ml can ordered from the Blue Boar and drunk at home. Golden brown and clear with a large silky off-white head. Oaky and astringent aroma with caramel and stone fruit. Bitter medicinal taste overlaid with sweet toffee and bready malt, leading to slightly more balance in the finish (although the bitterness is still more prominent). Watery body with heavy carbonation. It isn't bad.

Dark beer, bubbly beige head. Smells pretty hoppy and the taste follows suits, with grassy hop and a little tropical fruit along with a good hit of Earthy, toasty malt and a dash of coffee. Pretty nice, this.

This is, sadly, pretty full. I mean it's fine, it's a fine grapefruit tinged wheat but it's pretty bland.
