Description
Joseph Holt is a unique brewery: it embodies both traditional values and exceptional brewing. For more than 160 years the company has not only created and developed award winning beer, but also served the community of which it forms a part of. It has built sustainable jobs and worked with charities to deliver substantial benefits to people living in the brewery’s area of operations and beyond.
Established in 1849, Joseph Holt Ltd has been managed by its founding family for five generations. Throughout that time the company has been driven by traditions of professionalism, honesty and innovation. So the business, although rooted in the traditional values of a family firm with a reputation built on traditional draft and bottled beer, has always looked to evolve. The most recent developments in that evolution are the Crystal and Diamond range of lagers and the Golden Ale Two Hoots. These products join the collection of award winning lagers and excellent Smooth and Black keg beer.
The brewery has an established pub estate that is carefully managed to ensure that it is focused on growth.

500ml bottle from an off licence store in Chorlton. Clear red-brownish body. Fading off-white head, spotty lacing. Smell of earthy, semi-sweet malts. Toasted malts in flavour added by hints of dark fruits. Foamy in the mouth. Drinkable, standard stuff (hotel room, Manchester 07.07.2012).

500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s - Not a bad looking pint, deep copper colour with a half inch white head, has a mild malty aroma with hints of caramel. First hit has notes of sweet syrup, but this soon gives way to a bitter after taste which lasts quite a while. Not a big fan of Holt Ales, so I’ve avoided this for ages, but on this performance, I might give them a chance.

Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours dark gold with a weak foam head. Lightly toasted malt nose with hints of berries. Medium sweet flavor with mild toasted malts, light dry toffee, subtle yet sweet berry fruits. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty sweet to finish with toasty sugars, very light jammy berries, impressions of honey sweetness but not the flavor. A so so golden ale. Pretty enjoyable.
