Cask at the Old Monkey in Manchester. Rich caramel-flavored dark malt, with good hopping to go along. Still rather light at 3.2%, but good flavor. Slightly sweet with a very dry hop finish, more hops than I was led to expect for a mild. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a thick tan head. Burnt, bittersweet aroma. Very well roasted malt flavor, just a bit sweet, with dried dark fruits, cream, chocolate, coffee. Dry, roasted, slightly hoppy finish. A rather interesting beer, and a nice change from all the bitters I had tonight. Nice, rich beer.

23/1/2010: [500ml bottle shared with Dad - cheers!] Amber with a modderate rapidly dimishing white head. Moderate fizz. Odd, mouth-coating powderiness. Some sourish bitterness, sweet and sticky behind. Old dusty hops with a heap of caramel and very light hints of maple syrup. I’m not a big fan of this one, I’m afraid. 5/3/4/2/8 Re-rate 26/11/2011 [500ml bottle shared with Dad - cheers] Amber, mod cream head. Maple more evident than I remember (good - I like maple syrup!), but the beer has a powdery texture, and is rather sweet and very dull. 6/3/5/2/10 (rating on site is average of two tastes.
