About
Ārpus Brewing Co. is an independent microbrewery, founded in 2017 by craft beer geeks from Latvia. We brew what we love - juicy hop forward ales, fruity sour beers and bold imperial stouts - and we’re proud that Ārpus Brewing Co. is voted as #1 brewery in the Baltic States on Untappd.
We chose Latvian word Ārpus for the name of our brewery, as its meaning reflects the types of beers we brew - outside the box, beyond the mass made lagers, beers with overwhelming flavours and aromas for people brave enough to step out of their comfort zone.
The brewery is located just outside Riga (Latvia), equipped with a 10hL brewhouse and 20hL fermentation vessels. Our beer is packaged in 440mL cans and KeyKegs, then stored in a cold room to keep it fresh longer.

At a Drinkoteka tasting with the guys. Very full bod, med carbo. Very high sweet, med-high sour, light tart. Loads of vanilla, too much. Also lots of fruit character, intense, tasty, nice mix. The vanilla kills it though. Average-good.

At a Drinkoteka tasting with the guys. Med-full bod, lightish carbo. High bitterness, med-high sweetness. Lots of exotic, med citrusy, zesty hops, but overall it feels a bit muddled, estery, a bit overripe. Lacking freshness, seems to be just strong. Goodish, not greatish.

Tap at Drinkøteka. Murky yellow-golden body, thick off-white head. Earthy-resinous-citric Ārpus IPA aroma. The taste is more of the same earth, resin, citrus and low white grapes, dryish, juicyish, low oatiness. Great for Ārpus standards, very much an Ārpus IPA tho.

Can. A light haze on this orange gold beer, reasonable pale cream colour head. Light smooth palate, a mild dryness, decent fine minerally crispness. Light smooth pale malts, a nice light creamy sweetness. Soft pine into Riwaka hops, soft tangerine - melon - guava, other things, such an enigmatic hop, I think some Riwaka flavours are unique and not analogue to anything else. Bit like the hippies back in the 60s, imbibing LSD and seeing colours that they claimed had no names. Nice.

440ml can. Hazy, orange, dark golden colour with average to huge, creamy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Condensed and intense, but in no way "heavy", hoppy aroma, slightly grainy, pale, wheaty and slightly oaty malty background, notes of yellow stone fruit jelly, some mandarine, orange, a touch of white grape jelly. Taste is initially sweet, pale, wheaty and oaty malty and condensed, fruity hoppy, notes of white grape jelly, yellow stone fruit jelly; a minimally warming touch of alcohol joins in the middle part, as does some zesty hop bitterness; immense increase of hop bitterness in the last third, a minimally grainy basic layer throughout; still a minimally warming, alcoholic touch in the finish, relatively well hidden alcohol overall.
Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying, simultaneously almost pungent palate, medium to fine, soft, still efficacious carbonation.
Very bitter, kinda hop jelly - not bad.
