Sample from 2015 bottle at the DBLDP on 09/03/2017. The beer is a dark brown color some amber around the edges and a medium light beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing. Aroma of yeast, dark fruit, oak and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of Belgian yeast, whiskey, dark fruit and earthy yeast. The finish is fruity with a yeast and oak aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

A companion buy along with another Adelbert's beer from a liquor store in Santa Fe. Hopefully this one registers better. Going briskly into a tulip glass I note a hay colored body and a plentiful snow white head. Giving it a deep smell I find cane sugar and something flowery. Sampling it, my goodness, this is fine. There is peach, banana, a little yeastiness, cloves, a slight concluding bitterness. Tripels are my least favorite of the Belgians but this brew definitely holds up.

Adelbert's has been a source of well received brews. But witbier is far from my favorite style. How about a try on this 750 ml bottle from Santa Fe, NM? Job 1, get the cork out. Not easy. Strongly tilted into my snifter tasting glass it exhibits a striking yellow body and a promptly gone, whitish head. Lifting for a smell there is floral and some yellow fruit. A drink, well now, better than anticipated. It comes with grain, almost-sweet nectarine, bread. More spice than any witbier tried before and that is good. Drink again? Probably not.

Pours a dark brown with very little head from a bottle. Oaky rum aroma continues in the mouth. Nicely alcholic with a slight burn on the finish, otherwise a little sweet, big mouthfeel. Pretty good beer.

A hazed dark amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light bourbon barrel notes, bubble gum, nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light acidity, light cork, grapeskin, nice and complex. Bottle at Per’s Almost gone tasting, March 2017.

Bottled at Ottawa gathering. Cloudy amber, small head. Oaky vinous nose. Tart with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Woody tartness, slight marzipan, red wine. Peppery finish. Elegant and tasty.

Almost no head, clear copper-orange beer. Orange, coriander, bit liqueurish , smell, ’hot’, strong hinting at alcohol and rich syrup. Liqueurish taste, alcohol sweetness, just a touch of coriander. Very slick - oily bit of alcoholheat. Arch-typical USA interpretation of Be beer. In itself not bad, quite OK. Thanks to Stefaan!

Oh my, low expectation, a Texas quadrupel? My bad. Bought on a wing and a prayer at Total Wine in Frisco, TX. It pours into my tulip glass with an inky blackness and a very slight, tan, skim of head. It offers a decent nose, plum, currant, a hint of floral. As good as that is the taste improves. Deep dark fruit, a slice of dark chocolate, a light spiciness and an acknowledgement of the alcohol. Carbonation almost nonexistent, no complaining on that, just the way it is. No question this is the best domestic quad I have had. It challenges the Belgians. Just check my ratings.

750 ml bottle with cork and cage from Tavour. Nose is light amounts of candi sugar, cloves, white grapes, oak, and rum. Clear yellow gold with a medium lightly lacing off white head. Flavor is rum, light sweetness, and a hint of alcohol warmth. Very nice and smooth.

A hot mess like spilled poutine. Dark brown pour with big mocha head and lacing. Some caramel and unfermented sugar. Sone booze. Tangy finish with hint of florals. Tap at airport.
