Sampled @ ZBF 15. Red brownish color, virtually no head. Smell and taste sourish, overripe apple, green applepeel. Not good imo, tastes infected. Could be intended I guess, but I don´t like it at all.

The newest beer from this brewery, in existence for a few weeks now. Thin, loose and quickly dissipating, off-white head over a misty bronze coloured beer. Aroma of dried apricot, caramel, walnuts, red berries and a rather disturbing presence of H2S (sewer water or even rotten egg). Restrained dried fruit sweetishness, hint of peach with a basic sourish accent, smooth and supple mouthfeel, bit thin body actually, caramelly malts becoming a bit toasted in the end, lightly bittering with some herbal hop bitterness. Nothing outspoken here, just another middle of the road Belgian brown, forgettable, I’m afraid. And I hope they can at least eliminate the H2S odour!

Blonde session ale from the brewery that was installed to revive the Aarschotse Bruine tradition. Thick and creamy, snow white head over a hazy yellow blonde beer; aroma of green apple, starfruit, honey, apricot, flowers; crisp onset, sweet and honeyish but in a rather elegant way, not cloying, fruity, applish, quite strongly carbonated, soft bready malts, yeasty touch, light bitter finish. Has a kind of elegant, refined sweetness to it, rather pleasant actually, or in any case notably better than their two other beers.

Recreation of an old Aarschot beer tradition, apparently commissioned by the town of Aarschot itself; very thin and quickly dissolving, off-white head over a misty bronze beer with yellowish hue. Aroma of overripe peach, yoghurt, green apple, wine vinegar, walnuts but also rainwater and a disturbing presence of something sulphuric, not unlike rotten egg, so I suspect H2S. Restrained sweetness and peachy fruitiness in the mouth, some caramelly maltiness, smooth and rather thin body, dry tartness but not in the most elegant way (as in sour milk). Could have been a lot better, in this form it does not really honour the Aarschotse Bruine tradition, I’m afraid (not even technically: the original Aarschotse Bruine beer was made by blending a brown ale with a lambic, this one is a brown beer to which lactic acid is manually added, a bit like the former Zulte ’oud bruin’, which, needless to say, does not enhance complexity).
