[Vintage 2021]. 500mL bottle from the brewery. Pours very dark brown with almost no head. Aroma has a lot of the whiskey barrel and roast. Flavour has a roasted malt base with a good amount of whiskey. Based on older reviews it seems like the age has allowed the whiskey barrel to mellow out a bit. Still pretty boozy and unrefined, but enjoyable enough.

473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy blonde with a small, foamy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Mild aroma of bready wheat malt, mango, salt and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, mango, spicy pepper, salt and floral hops in a dry, slightly tart finish. Light body with a watery texture and average to soft carbonation. Refreshing and crushable, but a little too timid.

On tap at Parallel 49, pours a clear dark red with a small off-pink head. Aroma has dry red grapes, some earthiness, no notice of the Nelson. Flavour is dry and grapey, with plenty of rather dry red grapes and some earthiness. The Nelson was totally wasted in here, as there's no hint of it whatsoever. Decent grape character but a profoundly mediocre and ambitionless beer.

On tap at Parallel 49, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma has some floral dry-hopping and lacto in reasonably enough cohesion. Flavour is dry and balanced, with floral notes, lacto, and very light acidify. Very little depth and not particularly pleasant flavours. Not great.

On tap at Parallel 49, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma has a weird spicy hop character and graininess that doesn't seem quite dialed in right. Flavour has a very strange hop expression, with a sort of chemically spicy hop character and soft bready malt base. Weird experimental hops that don't work well here or, more likely, P49 has no idea what they're doing.

On tap at Parallel 49, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma has a strange herbal, sweaty hop character, and a soft, dry, bready malt base. Flavour is bewildering in its hop expression: very subtle herbal grassiness, some strange tanginess (almost tartness) and a mineraly, seltzery mouthfeel that seems out of place. How do you mess up a pale ale this badly?
