About
In 1872, Jules Vanneste bought the ‘t Hamerken distillery. In 1889, he took the step of definitively converting the distillery into a brewery. Soon, ‘t Hamerken top-fermentation beers became a household name in the Bruges area. Brewing continued till 1982.

In 1983, Paul Vanneste (great-grandson of the founder) founded the new De Gouden Boom brewery in collaboration with Frank Boon Brewery from Lembeek. In 1985 Brouwerij De Gouden Boom is granted a licence to brew the STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.

On 16 November 2001, PALM brewery acquired a majority interest in Brouwerij De Gouden Boom and in 2003 it was completely taken over by Palm Brewery. In the same year the Prior of St Peter’s Abbey in Steenbrugge licensed PALM Breweries to brew STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.

Since 2004 production of Bruges beers has been relocated to the PALM Breweries site in Steenhuffel.

De nasmaak is licht bitter en wat alcoholisch. cloudy golden colour, some off-white head, which disappears quickly; aroma and taste of citruses, bready-wheaty notes, some coriander and banana - a bit like a German weizen and not a typical Belgian white

Flaska från beernavigator. Lätt disig tunn poöst skum som snart är borta. Söt doft, ljust bröd, honung, majs i smör.

330ml bottle received as a present. Pale amber colour, with a foamy head that evaporated quickly. Aroma has some sweetness and fruit. The taste has this too, with a warmth from the high alcohol content.

23/VIII/14 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ my parents' place - BB: 9/III/16 (2014-936)

Cloudy pale light beige beer, small irregular white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: spicy, lots of coriander, sweet, sugary, very floral, banana, orange candy. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish start, lemony, pretty sweet and sugary, unpleasant kind of sourness, banana. Aftertaste: more banana, pretty sweet, sugary, soft spiciness, bit nasty sourish touch, overripe banana. Meh.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Kulminator. Presumably 2003 Vintage. Dark light brownish amber, little lightly off-white head. Smell is cardboard, oxidation & metal. Taste is cardboard, oxidation / honey, broken yeast, murky, old malts, lighter carbonation,… Close to hard to tell what this once used to be, okay in the regular old beer way but clearly way past the point when you should be drinking this, probably. It is still okay.
