Description
In 1872, Jules Vanneste bought the ‘t Hamerken distillery. In 1889, he took the step of definitively converting the distillery into a brewery. Soon, ‘t Hamerken top-fermentation beers became a household name in the Bruges area. Brewing continued till 1982.

In 1983, Paul Vanneste (great-grandson of the founder) founded the new De Gouden Boom brewery in collaboration with Frank Boon Brewery from Lembeek. In 1985 Brouwerij De Gouden Boom is granted a licence to brew the STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.

On 16 November 2001, PALM brewery acquired a majority interest in Brouwerij De Gouden Boom and in 2003 it was completely taken over by Palm Brewery. In the same year the Prior of St Peter’s Abbey in Steenbrugge licensed PALM Breweries to brew STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.

Since 2004 production of Bruges beers has been relocated to the PALM Breweries site in Steenhuffel.

Bottle on 20th July 2024 from Brussels Zuid/Midi station. Pours hazy amber with shallow off-white foam and scant lacing. Spicy malt aroma with herby fruitiness. Spiced malt in mouth with tangy fruits and grassy herbiness. Treacle and spiciness blend with tangy fruits in the finish. Full bodied with an engaging texture.

bottiglia 33 cl, schiuma bianca fine pannosa persistente, color giallo oro limpido, al naso è super speziata luppolata fenolica erbacea lieviti belgi succo di pera zucchero filato banana lieve alcool, in bocca è ancora super speziata pesche sciroppate pera frutta candita note erbacee, corpo rotondo, carbonatazione decisa, l’alcool si sente non disturba, dolce e lieve acidula con amaro accentuato. Smell- weaK malt and yeast. Foam- thin, hops, malt. weak yeast. Head is quite large, white with orange tint. Appearance- brewer bottle cap, simple label. Clear orange color, some carbonation bubbles. From - pint Taste - weak hops, malt, faint Belgian tones. Bit dry. Overall nothing special.

Smell- weak malt, hops. Foam-thin, malt, bitter tones. Head is quite large and light brown in color. Sticks. From - pint Appearance - brewer bottle cap, simple brewer label.Clear ruby color, some active carbonation, and nothing at the sides. Taste - weak malt, bitter tones, some Belgian tones. Nothing special.

Mild, slightly fruity. Easy to drink, some bitterness, hints of spices in the back. A bit sweetish perfumed. Not much bitterness, very soft with a nice fruity herbal Witbier-Aftertaste.
