Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 11/6/12

Aroma: The nose is citrus/grapefruit, some caramel, bread, and sweet malts
Appearance: It pours a dark orange-reddish color with a small head and some spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is a little more malty, then the nose, there's bitterness, but not much citrus hop flavor
Palate: The body is medium, it drinks with a little creaminess, an average carbonation, and dry finish
Overall Impression: This one is solid, but not too much more. Trying to remember back to the Green Flash version I had on tap, I feel like this one has a slightly better nose, but otherwise, I liked them both about the same amount, but this one might be just slightly better.

Slightly hazy nice deep copper coloured body with a orange and almost ruby glow wiht a fast-dying, soda-like tan head about a centimetre tall. Aroma of crazy stuff, like cardamom, aniseed, fennelseed, lavender, basil, coriander seed and a bunch of caster sugar and plenty of yeast - pungent smells. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strongish spice notes up front that fade after one or two seconds, tops, showing a ton of yeast, a lot of wheat and other lighter malts and a bit of a sweetness from plain caster sugar. Aftertaste is less complex than I assumed from the smell, but a nice different beer, bordering more on this style than anything else. Overall, within this style it’s average as best, but as a biere de garde, I’d give it a much better ’try to find’ review if you really enjoy the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 01-August-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 21-October-2012.

Viscous black pour that throws up a thick tan head. Complex aroma of chocolate, coffee, Bourbon. The flavor is sweet with lots of chocolate and just enough of the booze to be advantageous. Very nice for a chilly fall day.

Hazy light copper coloured body with a nice orange glow and trillions of small bubbles rising from the bottom and sides with small, one centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of tons of bread, yeast, coriander seed, curacao and a lot of unfinished sugars. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong wheat flavour with a few tonnes of curacao and coriander seed in the mix and a pungent yeast and alcohol flavour at the end. Aftertaste is very deep with a lot of body, showing some good freshness, some sweetness from oranges and a pungent spice kick at the very end. Overall, a perfectly true imperial wit, however that said, it’s simply too much beer and too much of the style packed in the bottle. Nice to try, and not a bad beer - but I don’t particularly like this choice of ’imperial’. The large format bottle doesn’t help either. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 16-February-2012 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 13-October-2012.

Bomber courtesy of Pete (non-RB) and to some extent GT2. Pours black with a small creamy mocha head that leaves lots of trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and fruity with roasted malts, dark chocolate, raspberries, blackberries, dark roast coffee, burnt cookies, cereal and hints of lemon zest. Taste is sweet and fruity with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, raspberry jam, resinous wood, hay, bitter chocolate and burnt cookies. Mouthfeel is round, very tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and fruity with roasted malts, raspberry jam, bitter chocolate and hints of sweetened coffee.

Bomber thank to Pete (non-RB) and to some extent GT2. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a small mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with toasted malts, vanilla fudge, cereal, "American" coffee, cardboard, lemon zest and hints of old bread. Taste is sweet and bitter with caramel, coffee, cereal, toffee, hay, alcohol and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, tiny boozy and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and very tiny sour with toasted malts, caramel, vanilla fudge, hay, lemon zest and cereal.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 9/27/12, #2442, another good palindrome of a rating

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet with caramel malts, apple/other fruits, and a little earth
Appearance: This beer pours a hazy dark orange-reddish color with a small beige head
Flavor: The taste is plus-sweet as well, it has similar flavors to the nose, and minimal bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, somewhat sticky, with a decent feel, and average carbonation
Overall Impression: Thanks to Pinsky for getting this one for me at State Line. This one is decent, but not great. It was a little sticky/sweet for my tastes. This isn’t a bad fall beer at all, there certainly isn’t anything particularly wrong with it, but I wouldn’t rush out for it again.
