Can (BB 08/2007)
I bought this from beer shop in Zürich as Bolivia was new beer country for me. As expected: pale yellow color with small white head and lace. Apples and vegetables in the nose. Light palate. Mostly alcoholic flavor and rice-like flavors. Very watery, harsh. Maybe fresh sample would up some points. Old wisdom: more "gold medals" beer has in its label, poorer lager it is ...

Bottled. Golden colour, mediumsized white bubbly head. Cooked vegetables and malts in the aroma. Flavour is sweet malts with some very leathery hints. I have had way worse tropical lagers than this one.

Undated bottle, honestly, I’m not even sure. Drinking it would suggest maybe 1-2 years, but that’s just a guess. Anyways, consumed on 8/4/06.
Still a pretty strong pour. Large, white head recedes steadily to cover, with minimal lacing and an absolute flurry of large bubbles rising. Dulled-bronze/amber body is quite dark for a pale lager. Protein break looks to be left on the bottom, so it must be a fairly aged sample, I guess.
Nose is a touch of apples, followed by crisp lager yeast bite and light base malt honey. No hops, bitterness or otherwise, with some minerals and spring water. But not even a touch of DMS. Some oxidation, perhaps? Giving it the benefit of the doubt, for being quite old, assumedly, it’s actually a fairly pleasant smell and must be pretty crisp and dry when young.
In the flavor, I’m astounded to find, smoke??? Definitely unmistakeable phenols associated with Bamberg smoked malts. And that touch of earthy, dry, smoked malt. Not sure how that got in there, and it’s more phenol than actual smoke. Could be just a mix of caramel and oxidation. But pretty stale and with low carbonation in the texture despite the flurry of bubbles. No hop bitterness, some yeast minerals and no alcohol. Very not-pale-lager-like. Definitely some chemicals in there (it says Antioxydant 122 on the recipe bill). More like a california common or amber ale. I’d like to try a fresh bottle, and in all fairness, I certainly will.

[Bottled] Dark brown, creamy head. Very sweet with strong molasses flavour. Like a really thin malzbier. The trademark malzbier sweetness is here diluted making it less intense, but more drinkable and watery. No bitterness.

A pale orange beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet malty with a light touch of straw, while the flavor is a weird mixture of metal and oranges.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a pale pilsener golden with a fair, creamy, white head. Aroma of corn and rice. Medium body with strange accents of coal and some smoke (?) - mysterious. Bitter finish. 070606

Bottle. Skunky and crappy pale lager. Aroma of dishwater, some beef. If it’s smoke, quite unpleasant smoke.

Very decent lager from Bolivia. Nice balance of bitterness and soft grain. Not as skunky hops as most other pale lagers. If i was in Bolivia, i would drink this stuff.

Light blond color. Light matly aroma, a bit smelly. Ordinary taste, but a peculiar, light (and pleasant) smokey touch (?!?).

Insanely clear in colour with a thin white head. Smells of fresh corn and coriander seeds. Clean taste, nothing offensive, all of the tastes are very subtle. Clean palate, not drying nor overpowerful. A decent beer, especially for the summer! I split this 12 ounce bottle with fellow Ratebeerian: JonR888710 which he bought at Total Wine in McLean, Virginia.
