The newest offering from this brewing company, is this Tripel Hop. Had the total set at Horeca Expo Ghent a few years ago (2016 ish ? ) and they weren't great. Lower side of mediocer I'd say. Earlier this year (2020) their rep gave me the newest brews ( same beers, but adjusted recipes) I was pleasantly surprised, especially by their blonde ( Bovengronds ) . This new offering, with the over-used term 'Tripel Hop' seems to be a Belgian Golden strong ( and you can take the strong litterally, at 10.5 ABV) with a hefty dose of Hops. Ingredients list show both sugar and rice, both of which enhances the drinkability, and it shows. We sampled this first as part of the newyears box by De Gebrande Winning. This was paired with slow cooked ham ( one of, if not our favorite dish of the set) . The beer pours a warm, darker golden. Clear, even with the last drops in the glass ( probably not refermented , than ? ) . Medium sized, relatively stable white head. Scent is malty, minor touch of hops (fruity/floral/spicy , none of them really pronounced though ). Taste is surprisingly pleasant. The alcohol shows - mildly. I'd guess it was 8% , even with the warming glow afterwards. The flavors just are that balanced. It's fairly sweet though, especially in combination with the Ham ( which does work, but would make the beer to sweet for a full bottle) . The hops are relatively mild, but are indeed more present than your average Belgian Golden Strong Ale, and since this isn't supposed to be an IPA, I think they succeed well in their aim. Bitterness level is Medium ( for the style). A full, kiwi like aroma grows rapidly intense in the very early aftertaste, but is gone within a second. Overall, impressive stuff, far beyond the skill they showed in ** 2016 ? ** . On par with their recent offerings quality wise. Not groundbreaking, but flawless, and with just that touch more than the average example. Pleasant drink to finish, perhaps not Beergeek-aimed enough to buy loads of (to me), which is all the better for the commercial reasons for them.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Brown with a tan head. Dark sweet caramel with dark fruits. Sweet taste with a low bitter finish. Smooth and full mouthfeel. Excellent Christmas beer.

Murky orange colour, medium-sized creamy off-white head and lace. Medium-bodied. Sweetish honeyish simple tripel. Some spiceyness and alcohol.

The ‘black gold’, literally translated, but a simple blonde rather than a black beer – alas. Cobweb-lacing, snow white, pillowy, very stable head over a misty peach blonde beer with deep golden hue and lively sparkling. Aroma of ripe pear, apple peel, peach, halfripe banana, touch coriander seed, soggy sandwiches, hints of juniper berry, pumpkin soup, lemon zest. Sweetish fruity onset, banana, peach and again a very notable presence of ripe pear and red apple, lively and minerally fizz, supple body; sweetish white-bready malts with a light honeyish sweetness on top. A pinch of soapy coriander is added while that apple- and pear-like flavour continues; floral hops and mild spicy phenols provide a bit of bitterness and spiciness in the end, but the whole remains very soft, gentle and – frankly – boring, if correctly made without any errors.
