500 mL bottle. Pours a clear golden with a large white head. Mild tart wheat aroma hinting at smoke. Light wheat flavor with smoky tones and a light tartness. It’s okay, but not really exciting nor to my taste.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden straw color with a small 1 finger foamy white head with decent retention, that reduces to nearly nothing. Minimal lacing clinging to the glass. Aromas of lemon, apple, wheat, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, earth, anise, and steak sauce; seriously, steak sauce. Some very interesting aromas with good strength and decent balance. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, wheat, rosemary, basil, ginger, pepper, clove, anise, and herbal spiciness. Very slight tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruit, spices, herbs, wheat, and pepper on the finish for a very short bit. Nice flavor balance and complexity; quite dry on the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very crisp and clean mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present on the finish at all as expected. Extremely easy to drink. Overall this is a nice Gruit style ale. The aromas were certainly interesting; but the taste was nicely balanced and very smooth. This was quite enjoyable.

21/07 RBESG Grand Tasting, 0.5 l bottle. It poured hazy pale yellow body with small head. Weaker sourish aroma. Nice flavor, heavily sour, maybe even a bit too much while fine biscuit and bread malt showed very subtly. Medium bodied. Long, pleasant sour finish, touch of citrus. Glad to have it there, as I couldn’t find it on BW hunt in Berlin two years ago. Real flavors are a bit too hidden, and misses complexity seen in some other examples of the style.

21/07 GT at Richtar Jakub, 0.5 l bottle. Ever since joining on RB and reading about more elusive, extinct styles I was dreaming that this one would be revived. And it eventually happened, but unfortunately revivals were hardly available until this one, so I thank to jfb for bringing it to the Grand Tasting. It poured hazy orange body with small head. Lightly smoked wood, citrus fruity and .a bit yeast in aroma. Flavor was also lightly smoked, but much more tart than aroma would suggest. Citrus fruits are dominant and tartness is very elegant. Herbal hop bitterness adds to this melting pot, all very balanced and quite subtle. Medium bodied with astringent finish, where also lot of peat were felt. Smoked sour hopped wheat ale...exactly what it sounds, well crafted, refreshing and a wonderful experience.

RBESG ’12, Bratislava. Grand Tasting at Richtar Jakub. 50cl Bottle. Milky yellow colour, white head. Aroma of light wheat, light lemony sourness. Flavour is light tart, light sour, light lemon, light wheat, yes this is a very light beer.

Bottle @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2012. Hazy, golden orange appearance with a small white head. A bit toasty, tangy, acidic, mild medicinal, wheat aroma. Burnt, light ashy, lemon acidic, lactic, carbonated, citrusy flavor. Subtle and a bit all over the place. Glad to finally have tried it.

Bottle, RBESG 2012 grand tasting. Hazy light yellow colour. Aroma sour apples, citrus fruits. Taste heavy sour, light salty, light bitter. Way too sour for my taste, but interesting. Dry sour and bitter finish.
