This was poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown color with a finger’s worth of creamy colored head. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some coffee, toasted nuts and chocolate. Mild caramel in the background.
The flavor took all of those previously mentioned tastes to blend sweetly. Mild roast. Even a milder bitterness. Smooth sweet nutty to chocolatey sort of aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation.
Overall, good brown ale that I would have again.

Cask - Caramel, light cocoa and some chilli. Cloudy copper with a decent beige head. Cocoa, light caramel and a touch of chilli heat. Flavours of chilli are really muted.

Bottle shared at Ratebeer awards show. 30/01/2016. .Many thanks! A hazed orange brown coloured pour with no head. Aroma is tangy red berries, woody malts, grapey, hot alcohol. Flavour is composed of nice cakey malts, toffee, red berries, wood. Palate is sweet and sticky, moderate carbonation.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of the coffee upfront, with a touch of cocoa. Flavour is bone dry, with espresso, some old coffee grounds, and a little bitter roast. Very light and uncomplex palate lacking in dynamics. Decent but leaves something to be desired.

Pretty good ipa, fairly cleanly made. I think it's rating in here have it underrated. I'm not a huge ipa fan, but it's good.

Spices are quite strong, but well balanced by the malt. This beer is really good for the style. It's easy drinking for the high alc.

Okay creamy barley aroma modest head and good coffee barley flavour but not much layering or interesting things. Drinkable in a pub setting though.

Bottle found in Surrey. Okay medium orange body, modest head, some grain aroma with citrus hints. Good grain flavours balanced and smart, medium finish. Liked this one.

Medium brown, cloudy, with a thin, even head. Fruitcake nose, especially a sultana/brandy kind of accent. This is going to be sweet, but I’m not grabbing an overload of phenols, and that is encouraging. Body is odd - simultaneously thick and thin. I see this as being a function of a cold serving temp. Soft and sweet. Though the fruity, raisiny character is indistinct, it’s not bad. Alcohol is subdued - it is on the lighter side for the style. But being more or less balanced and devoid of wonky phenols is a good starting point. Now to build in a bit more nuance.

12oz draft, Devil’s Elbow. Slight haze. Medium head. Big c hoppy nose - that grapefruit and pine, pretty fresh and bright, showing a lot of lemony accents and some thick earthy notes. Strong, thick and rich chewy malts. Lots of bitterness, too. It’s a big beer. Is that a hint of diacetyl late? Probably...howe sound will do that...but it’s getting bludgeoned by malt sweetness. Seems balanced (as triple IPAs go) but not necessarily my snifter of choice - their BW and Impies would come ahead.
