1 litre bottle. Pours black with light head. Aromas and flavors of licorice, roasted malt and black coffee. Oily. Nice.

Medium brown with haze, thin head. Quite sweet...toffee...that vinous character is really out of place here. Not in line with the style, which takes better to richer molasses notes...lager is specifically not fruity. Just can’t get past the wonky balance of having all that fruitiness.

Mexican Chiapas? As opposed to some other Chiapas? Had this at Devil’s Elbow. Medium brown, thick head. Big chocolatey coffee nose, earthy. Similar earthy chocolate coffee on the palate. Medium body. The toast adds balancing bitterness.

Draught at Devil’s Elbow, Vancouver
Light amber color. It’s a bit bready and grainy; it’s clean, but at this gravity it’s just a watered version of a real Märzen. But not a bad beer.

Draught at Devil’s Elbow, Vancouver; 12oz
Dark color, near black, with beige compact head. The body is strong, the mouthfeel is smooth; the aroma is mild, but it has a good malt depth in the flavor, with dark caramel, reminiscent of a Sticke, moderately sweet, clean fermentation profile, and maybe a hint from the red grapes.
Solid beer.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out red grapes, dark raisins, and toffee. Flavour brings out lots of dark fruits, especially raisins, followed by heaps of toffee, and dark cocoa. Quite deep in the flavour profile, while remaining light and silky on the palate. Nicely balanced. A very nice dessert porter.
