Description
Kirkstall Brewery was inspired by the rich brewing history of Kirkstall village, which later formed part of the city of Leeds. The brewing company boasts a rich history spanning from the 12th century, where the Cistercian monks founded Kirkstall Abbey and began the area’s brewing legacy. The original Kirkstall Brewery was founded in 1871 and was in operation till 1983 when it was closed by its last owners, Whitbread. The buildings have been well preserved and are now home to students of Leeds Metropolitan University. The new Kirkstall Brewery is located on the Leeds Liverpool canal, in the shadow of the original brewery, reviving the tradition of brewing in Kirkstall and the inspiration to once again make the name famous for great beer.

(Cask at King's Arms, Bethnal Green, London, 18 Nov 2023) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Creamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel and black bread. Malty, roasted taste with caramel, sweet liquorice, chocolate, coffee, dark bread and a mild herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty, balanced and harmonious. Very nice.
