Description
Arkell’s Brewery was established in 1843 by John Arkell and 175 years later, is one of less than thirty family breweries remaining in the UK. As Swindon’s oldest business, Arkell’s has kept its founding values alive and continues to produce local beer for local customers. These values have been continued by the four family members in charge today; Chairman James Arkell, his cousin Nick Arkell, Head of Sales, and James’ sons George Arkell, and Alex Arkell are Managing Director and Head Brewer respectively.

Cask handpull at Muggletons JDW Maidstone. Reddish brown no head. Awful English strong bitter. Sweet, cloying, syrupy nose, served too cold. Some toffee with drying finish. Couldn’t even finish a half pint of this Had this again on 06/11/05 at Society Rooms, the other JDW in Maidstone. Orange copper with bubbly white head. Smell of turkish delight and citrus hop. OK in mouth with then tangerine hop with a sherberty feel. Hops are green and excelletn 4.0 Decent dark ale. Cask handpull at The County Hotel JDW Ashford. Good winter beer. Good malt. Some sweetness. I liked it

Cask at County Hotel (JDW) Ashford. Golden colour, with flowery hoppy nose, caramel in mouth with astringent flowery hops on end. Some lemony hoppy citric acidity, some earthiness. Interesting

[Cask at GBBF, 2004] An orange beer with no head. The aroma is very light - what is there is hoppy. The flavor is wheaty and hoppy with a dry end.

Bottled. Deep golden, rich head. Hay like hops accompanied by a pleasant, soft malt back bone. Dry. Balanced bitterness.

Light amber color. Very nice hoppy aroma. Unfortunately the body is too thin, just bearing some light hop.

An amber beer with a fine though disappearing head. The aroma is of yeast, oranges, and is rather bitter. The flavor is of oranges with a very dry nice bitter end. A nice bitter in a bottle.
