Description
Arkell’s Brewery was established in 1843 by John Arkell and 175 years later, is one of less than thirty family breweries remaining in the UK. As Swindon’s oldest business, Arkell’s has kept its founding values alive and continues to produce local beer for local customers. These values have been continued by the four family members in charge today; Chairman James Arkell, his cousin Nick Arkell, Head of Sales, and James’ sons George Arkell, and Alex Arkell are Managing Director and Head Brewer respectively.

Cask at GBBF 2007. An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of phenol and brown sugar. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of phenol and medium notes of brown sugar hitting a bit later, leading to a dry bitter and phenolic finish.

Cask at the Talbot, Swinford Toll bridge, Enysham, Oxon, 03-11-07 leg three of the Thames Tipple. Dark amber with a small white head, poured far too cold unfortunately so aroma difficult to detect initially. Malty and quite sweet but reasonable fruitiness as well, not great but makes a change from the sea of GK beers on offer today.
