Great Newsome Brewery
Regional Brewery in Winestead, East Yorkshire, England 🏴
Established in 2007
We don’t try to reinvent the wheel. We keep it simple, using superb natural ingredients to make beer that you can sit back and enjoy, without even thinking about it. Which in our opinion is the sign of a very good pint indeed. It’s traditional craft beer with a modern twist.
Growing our own malting barley gave us a good start and we have since developed special strains of yeast as well as experimenting with homegrown hops, although they are difficult this far north.
Visiting our shop, you’ll be sure of a tail wagging welcome from our English Springer Spaniels, descendants of the late Jem, our mascot who is fondly remembered on bottle labels and draft beer bar tags.

Cask @ Ring O'Bells, Halifax. Golden with a creamy head. Floral-hoppy, its elderflower is prevalent and its dominant feature.

Bottle from Waitrose. Chestnut uncoloured, with a moderately-sized, off-white, head. Sweetish bitter, with some red berries, caramel, toasted bread and touch of leafy hops. Fine.

Hand-pulled half-pint in my local Wetherspoons on 29th June 2018. Ruby hue to the brown body, smooth beige head that gave some heavy lacing. Roasted and toasted malts ruled both the nose and taste, a decent Mild all round.

Cask at JDW, Birmingham Airport. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy off white head. The aroma is nutty, roasty malt, dry hop. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter with a smooth, rich, roasty, dry charcoal, dry hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask, half pour at the Troc. Medium amber, thin spotty head, weak for a cadk pour. Aroma is fruity, caramel, banana. Taste is caramel, very sweet, almost tangy. Seems off in the taste, but not in the aroma.

Clear deep amber colour, tall frothy off-white head, half-way lasting. Aroma toasted malts, toffee, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, maple syrup. Flavour medium sweet and bitter, toasted malts, toffee, faint fruits. Malty bittersweet finish, resinous hops, spicy notes, very nice.
