Description
Shiny was established in 2012, as a small scale operation, brewing in Derby mainly for its brew pub. Now based in the beautiful village of Little Eaton, just outside of Derby. The brewery is based in the centre of the village and has a taproom which features all Shiny’s new beers and one off pilots. Our beer story began with untraditional highly hopped cask beer and now has evolved into brewing a range of cask, keg and cans, the ethos is still the same brew beers we love to drink which means lots of hops! All beers are unfined and a good number of our core range is certified Gluten Free.

Cask at Alexandra, Derby. Pours almost black with a small foamy beige head. Roasted malts to the fore in the aroma, plus some hints of vanilla. In the mouth it is quite sweet with flavours of roast malts and dark fruits plus a hint of alcoholic strength. Some traces of coffee and chocolate come through later. A little bitterness in the finish. This is quite decent though a bit pedestrian.

Can. Hazy orange gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light smooth malts, a light creamy sweetness. Smooth cooling pine. As expected with this hop line up, an abundance of fruity hop goodness. Bright candy citrus, touched of lime and red berries. Modest hop spice. A little tropical fruit richness underneath. Finishes light and semi dry with a mild hop spice nibble creeping in. Super duper, light, bright and with abundant juicy modern hop flavours bursting out. Could drink a lot of this.

A fairly hazy gold beer, small but tidy bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light pale malts, a light and semi dry creamy sweetness. Meridian hops! Been a few months and all of a sudden, I remember why I was seeking beers out with this rather spiffing new hop. Juicy orange and mandarin citrus with a good bright lemon vibe, bright and fruity and never ever acid. So, this could be a description for Azacca but what sets Meridian apart is that fairly clear and pretty unique Spearmint vibe, it really comes throughout on the back end. Modest ripe berries and tropical fruits really don't hurt either. Guava, lychee, a little ripe strawberry and blueberry. Light finish lets some cooling pine come through. Easily the best Meridian brew I have had. When used properly, this hop can mix it with the best. Lovely IPA brewed with a lovely new hop.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Light orange gold, hazy with a fairly thick and fluffy white head. Big aroma of berries, freshly squeezed oranges, some mango and pineapple. Tastes more malty than I thought it would, never sweet but turning a little bit bitter in the second half of the sip. Not getting as much of the fruit but it makes it a more rounded beer in a way. Full body, medium carbonation. Not a throwaway recipe by any means but maybe short of their best.

Keg draught at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Dark gold and a very hazy with a small film of off-white head. Big Citra aroma, lots of bright grapefruit notes underlain by some toasty malt. Sweet taste with a good malt base, lots more grapefruit with a touch of berry. Slightly dirty nite i cant quite place. Ephemeral bitterness in the finish. Light body with slightly heavy carbonation. Very good for the ABV.
