Description
Shiny was established in 2012, as a small scale operation, brewing in Derby mainly for its brew pub. Now based in the beautiful village of Little Eaton, just outside of Derby. The brewery is based in the centre of the village and has a taproom which features all Shiny’s new beers and one off pilots. Our beer story began with untraditional highly hopped cask beer and now has evolved into brewing a range of cask, keg and cans, the ethos is still the same brew beers we love to drink which means lots of hops! All beers are unfined and a good number of our core range is certified Gluten Free.

Draught keg at the Castle, Leicester. Light yellow/gold, hazy with a fluffy white head. Scent of lemon, vanilla, grapefruit, cantaloupe. Sweet, sugary taste with a decent dollop of malt. Bitterness soon stakes a claim leading to a nice balance for the finish. Grapefruit oils in the aftertaste. Lighter body, carbonation is a bit heavy. Love this one. A tiny vegetal note in the initial sip otherwise the score would be pushing 8.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Pours very, very dark brown with the thin khaki head and lots of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, a little Marmite, a little marshmallow. Taste starts with a sweet/savoury interplay with heavy caramel and salted molasses notes, turning very bitter toward the finish. Body stays on the light side with decent but not overpowering carbonation. For the ABV, I'd want more intensity, but it's enjoyable and complex.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Light to mid-gold, hazy with a rocky and quickly dissipating white head. Citrus aroma with pineapple, and a brash metallic note. Tastes sweet at first, followed by an almost astringent bitterness. Finish is odd and artificial. Light to medium body with fairly intense carbonation. Struggles a bit with this one.

A beer name that exemplifies many job applications before you can even apply properly! My application for this hazy golden beer was accepted first time. Much pine in aroma is less stated in taste, but still dominant, but with a notable creaminess attached here, which appeals as it gives the brew a smoothish and nice mouthfeel. Cold and crisp from cellar.
