Description
Ferry Ales Brewery was founded in 2016 by John and Mike, two professionals who have spent the last 10 years commuting daily for work on planes, trains and automobiles to London, across the UK and the globe.

They first met in 2010 on the station platform at Newark commuting to London. A mutual nod, a hello, and a few words later led to the guys becoming friends and families meeting. Meanwhile, manifesting in their heads, and unbeknown to each other, was their exit plan from the rat race into the world of craft beer brewing. In April 2015 a chance discussion on the train to London led to Mike revealing his exit plan which was very much to John's astonishment as neither Mike nor John was aware that the other had an interest in beer beyond drinking it.

8th January 2024, Shrewsbury Beer Share in Chez Sophie, five guys and loads of beers! I brought along this 500ml bottle: BBE August 2024. Nice tanned topping on a black body, looked good. Mild smokey aroma and taste, over roasted malts more than 'smokey', more singed. Anyway I liked it.

500ml bottle: BBE April 2024, obtained from Chuckling Cheese, Skegness. Poured into an 'Old Speckled Hen' badged vase shaped pint glass at home on 7th January 2024. Huge billowing white head, clear golden body (until I added the sediment, it hazed of course). Nice fruity bitter feel, liked it.

500ml bottle on 4th January 2024 at my parents house in Devon. Obtained from Chuckling Cheese of Skegness. Slight haze in the pale golden body, white crust. Hoppy more than malty, more bitter than sweet, semi-dry finish.

Bottle. Doddington Hall Farm Shop. Clear pale gold. Good sturdy white foam. Malts are a bit papery. Some rubbery notes. Taste is pretty sweet with a boiled hop bitterness. Weird mouthfeel. Feels a bit gluey but with really sharp intense carbonation. Burnt bitterness to finish. Not nice.

Cask at GBBF'23, day two, 02/08/23. Clear golden blonde with an off white cap that escapes edgewards. Nose is fruit rinds, straw, buttery biscuit, diacetyl. Taste comprises grains, butter, vanilla tinged wood, diacetyl. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Meh ... I'm glad the trained CAMRA tasters can tell a disaster from a best in show!

Cask at Royal William IV, Lincoln. An easy going ale that did the job nicely before dinner and quiz. Classic caramel colour. Some notes i couldn't put my finger on but they were earthy and interesting.
