From a 375ml can on 19//2017. Pours a cloudy amber with a medium head. The aroma features sweet fruit with some hoppiness. The flavour features lots of caramel malt, some toffee, stone and citrus fruit, some rye and spice, and some big dry lingering hops. The texture is slick and the carbonation is moderate. A really tasty, hoppy amber ale.

From a 375ml bottle on 17//2017. Pours near black with a big tan head which dissipates quite quickly. The nose features chocolate, cocoa and some roasted notes. Take a sip and you’re greeted with real intensity. Masses of chocolate, caramel, licorice and roasted malt, with some soy and sea salt. The sweet up front is met forcefully by a big hoppy, slightly burnt bitterness, which is quite resiny and lingers long in the mouth. The palate is lovely - thick, slick and creamy with moderate to average carbonation. What an absolutely cracking stout this is. It drinks like an imperial and has enough hops to bring it close to black IPA territory. Splendid stuff.

Drank it a few nights ago. No notes, but wanted to record for my own notes that I loved it and should definitely drink it again.

375ml can into pint glass, lightly chilled. Black beer with a mahogany tinge around the edge. Big solid tan-coloured head. Nose is dark chocolate and cocoa. Smooth full-bodied stout with velvety mouthfeel. Bitter chocolate finish. Alcohol is warming and adds a rich fruity caramel note right at the end. Excellent stout, good nightcap.

Can, 8C. Gold with an inch of white head.Aroma of oranges, apricots, light bread, cantaloupe, some apple (hmm). Overt alcohol kicks in on first sip unfortunately. There’s grainy bread and a slightly spicy bitter finish. The fruit gets a little buried. A bit frustrating.

Can. Pretty much black with a tan head that’s soon a coat. Aroma of mocha and molasses, some vanilla, pine. A nutty note that’s a little green. Smooth, low carbonation - or yes, the can says nitro (I’d assumed that was for draught only). But there’s no widget. So I guess it’s nitro but not much of it. And it works really well. smooth and oaty with more chocolate than coffee, quite strong citrus-tinged bitterness. Solid beer.

Can. Hazy amber with a large white head. Aroma of bitter oranges, pine, bread, toffee or maybe a little butterscotch. Much more assertive in taste with herbal and spice notes joining with mainly pine to finish what is mostly plainly bready malt with rather strong bitterness. Not sure that it offers quite enough for its strength, but has more straightforward grunt than other VALE beers.
