Can at Paus Craft Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy light amber colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light tropical citrus, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter light sweet with a fresh, crisp, malt, fruity, light pepper spice, hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

(Bottle) Pours black with good tan head. Pleasant aroma - toasty malts with hints of dried fruits and chocolate. Great palate - medium bodied, smooth with some bright carbonation. Taste is nicely balanced. There’s some uncharacteristic but well placed sweetness. This balanced nicely some burnt sugar and hoppy bitterness in the finish. There’s dried fruit / raisins in the start and middle, even a slightly port or tokay taste. Very nice, and slightly different, take on a stout.

Taster at Sydney beer festival. Pink beer with creamy white head. Nose is strawberries, mouthfeel is creamy (no surprise there!). Great lacing. Taste and finish is strawberry but not overly sweet. Ridiculously easy to drink at 7 %. A lot of fun.

From a 375ml can on 23/8/2018. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a small to medium head. Has a quite a distinctive aroma of toast and fruit. The flavour starts with toasty and biscuit malt, some toffee, sweet stone fruit, a touch of honey, finishing with a good dash of hop bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. It's not often I enthuse about a beer labeled a lager, but this is nice stuff. Yet another good'n from Fox Hat.

From a 375ml can on 26/7/2018. Pours near black with small tan head. The nose is roasted malt, soy, and some chocolate. The flavour is big and complex - milk and dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, ash and soy. The bitterness is big with the 100IBU being no surprise. The finish is very dry,and almost charred. The body is creamy and the carbonation moderate. I'm a big fan of Fox Hat and Phat Mongrel is one of the most impressive stouts I've come across. I was ready to be blown away by an imperial version, but I'm just a shade disappointed. Don't get me wrong, this is a fine beer and an enjoyable impy. But I'd say that Phat is a more complete beer when the style is considered. But still well worth a try.

This is another great Phat Mongrel beer, with aromas of malt, grapefruit, honey, raisins and orange. There is grapefruit and intense pine in the mouth, plus spearmint, a little stone fruit and even a slight waft of coffee. The alcohol is very well hidden. A well made beer.

Huge thanks Emir!! Ruby-tinged almost black body, creamy brownish tan head. Perfumey, lovely full malty aroma, coffee, caramel. Coffee, roast, bitter on a soft, but still roasty maltiness, bit herbal and black-malt-tart. Dry and bitter in the finish. Interesting, daring, cool, but not the best around.

Tap at the Empress Hotel, Melbourne. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a frothy off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, light dry charcoal, light liquorice, dry hop. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter with a smooth dry roasty malt, light grassy fruit, light dry coffee hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. An oatmeal stout with some black IPA characteristics.

A beautifully balanced IPA that hides its alcohol well. Butterscotch aromas combine with grapefruit and honey. It’s well bodied and spreads a heap of pine needles and grapefruit across the tongue. Nice work.

From a 375ml can on 30/4/2017. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a big white foamy head. The nose is pleasant and fruity, with some tropical notes, and a hint of pine. Flavour wise, it begins with lovely sweet fruit, orange, apricot, peach and mango, with some honeyed notes, which is set off aginst a biscuit malt background. The hops are pretty firm and quite resiny. The body is full and the carbonation is average. Just a beautifully balanced, extremely well integrated IPA - tasty, moreish and ridiculously satisfying. Id go so far as to say this is the finest standard IPA brewed in Oz at the moment. This is my third Fox Hat and all of them have been truly excellent. That this apparently comes from the mob responsible for the insipid McLaren Vale brews is surprising, as this Fox Hat stuff is top flight.
