Description
Barney’s started brewing at Summerhall in July 2012 in time to supply the venue’s Royal Dick Bar for the Fringe, but Barney himself began brewing aged 16 as a brewery apprentice. After bagging a first class degree in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University and packing in a high flying career promoting rum and whisky around the world, Barney decided it was high time he started to brew his own beer.
In doing so, his immaculate microbrewery has injected new life into Edinburgh’s brewing history, not least because he’s chosen to resurrect a brewery at Summerhall where beer has been brewed off and on for three centuries.

Bottle from Cork and Cask. Pours surprisingly pale amber, low carb, thin ring of lackadaisical white head. Aromas of vanilla, coconut and dried fruit. Taste is fruit cake, coconut, bourbon. Little wood, mostly vanilla. Dry finish though. Interesting, but would've liked more toffee in the base beer to have come through and rounded it all out.

Can from Aldi Loco Works. It pours lightly hazy orange with a tiny white head. The aroma is sweet, juicy, tart, tangy, bright mango, apricot, peach, nectarine, twist of lime and a touch of warming spice. The taste is tart, tangy, very juicy, bright mango, apricot, peach, lemon - lime, mellow chilli spice, mango salsa, sherbet, refreshers and tangerine with a touch of warmth in the finish. Average body and fine, prickly carbonation. Exceeds expectations for sure. Well judged mango and spice.
