Description
Barney’s started brewing at Summerhall in July 2012 in time to supply the venue’s Royal Dick Bar for the Fringe, but Barney himself began brewing aged 16 as a brewery apprentice. After bagging a first class degree in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University and packing in a high flying career promoting rum and whisky around the world, Barney decided it was high time he started to brew his own beer.
In doing so, his immaculate microbrewery has injected new life into Edinburgh’s brewing history, not least because he’s chosen to resurrect a brewery at Summerhall where beer has been brewed off and on for three centuries.

Bottle from LIDL in Uxbridge. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, vanilla aroma and taste. Not too sweet, it's quite drinkable but I expected a little more after the initial hype surrounding this one some months back.

7.4% Lidl version, from their Brooklands branch. Aroma is sweet and sugary, sweet and creamy. Dark. Pours medium-dark brown. Foamy beige head, which thins too soon. Light-medium bitter with a big sweet streak. Equally not overly marshmallow. More sugary lactose with coffee. Sour berries and malts into the finish. Medium bodied. Creamy. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. A bit too chemically for me and certainly wouldn't want too much of this in one go. I first commented that it was not overly sweet but it gradually just gets sweeter and sweeter with added aftertaste.

Rocky white head stayed on a murky light brown head. Big fruity aroma with confectionery. Medium bodied, creamy with a lighter clean back. Confectionery, Bitter/Sweet citrus, melon & peach tastes. That's deece.
