Description
The Jolly Boys' Brewery is based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, UK. We are four friends who brew beautiful ales with integrity and grace.

A story of warmth, banter, integrity and grace. The Jolly Boys Brewery was established in the snug of a Scarborough pub in 2014. It was more than a distraction, reverie or unobtainable dream.

The four friends realised that this was something they wanted to puruse. They savoured this thinking time and punctuated it with laughter, jocularity, brotherhood and slience – that comfortable silence where you shake your head and smile. And they never want it to end.

The Jolly Boys’ have spent their working lives contributing via their day jobs to the support of others in society. This moral drive is important to them. Couple this with a love of beer, respect for the community and pride doing a good job, the boys made a life-changing decision: they were going to brew beer.

What more honorable and worthwhile calling could there be?

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours almost black with a small tan head. The aroma has biscuits, fudge and roasted malts. In the mouth it is quite sweet with a creamy, gooey texture. Flavour has roasted malts, chocolate, fudge, treacle and hints of oranges. Liquorice comes through quite strongly later leading to a fairly bitter finish. This is distinctly reasonable.

Cask @ The Hebden (formerly The Pub), Hebden Bridge. Black with a very small light-brown creamy head. Its fudge is decent and not overbearing - chocolate is perhaps best in its nose.

Handpull cask at the brewpub, Barnsley. Chestnut brown with a strong reddish hue, clear with s thick beige head. Light nutty aroma, some berry and stone fruit in the background. Sweet taste with a gorgeous little malty character, dipping into an almost sour woody character in the finish. It’s a lovely little biter but fails to quite hit the heights of the best examples of the style.

Handpull cask at the brewpub, Barnsley. Purplish black, barely translucent with a thin film of beige head and lots of lacing. Big notes of ash, charcoal (am I just imagining this due to the ‘Collier’ name?), some blueberry and plum. Taste is surprisingly sweet and rounded with dark stone fruit shining through. The back of the sip is more bitter, with added. liquorice character.oily full body with soft carbonation. Love this.
