Description
Back in the 1980s Terry and Bev McCashin took on New Zealand’s brewing duopoly from a small Nelson factory using their own recipes. They gave people more than just something to drink…they gave us choice. And so began the craft beer revolution…

(Bottle) Hazy amber with slightest hint of head. Slight aroma of grain with some candy and grassy hints. Light body with reasonable carbonation. Quite fruity start - stone fruit - with some somewhat harsh bitterness developing. Not great.

(Bottle) Clear dark amber / medium brown with very slight white head. Subtle sweetish biscuity malt aroma. Fairly light body with pleasant soft carbonation. Malt and hops on the foretaste with the malt ebbing away for some lasting gentle bitterness. Notes of tea and maybe toffee. Pleasant beer.

(Bottle) Very dark, essentially black, with small short-lived tan head. Subtle, fresh, grainy aroma. Light body with good soft plentiful carbonation. Taste is balanced mix of burnt, flinty and sour notes with little malt, and some bitterness in finish. One of my least favorite beer styles, however this is very drinkable.
