Bottle. Clear, pale golden beer with a white head. Quite weak nose, grainy with a little fruityness and some hay. Grainy flavor with bitterness that lasts. Hay as well, initially. Thin to medium body. Decent, or at least not foul, but dead boring. (070809)

On tap at Berliner Bierfestival. (As Köthener Schwarzbier.) Clear, dark brown body, with a beige head. Lightly roasted aroma, with dark bread as well. The same goes for the flavor, which also has some fruityness and bitterness. Medium to full body. Sweetish, roasted finish with some fruityness. A bit one-dimentional, yet quite pleasant and drinkable. (070805)

On tap at Berliner Bierfestival. (As Köthener Pils) Clear, a bit pale golden, with a white head leaving lacings. Grain, hay and some hops in the aroma. Quite boring flavor too, with grain, hay and some bitterness. Medium to thin body, and a sweet, slightly bitter finish. Decent, but too boring. (070805)

Bottled. A yellow beer with a thin white head. Both the aroma and flavor are sweet and malty - straight down the middle of the road - nothing exciting - nothing wrong.

Bügelverschlußflasche: Pale golden, mid-sized fluffy head, quickly collapsing and sticking to the glass; sweet-malty and cardboardy nose with a touch of vegetables; weak sweetish-bitter flavour; slightly bitter finish with a big touch of cooked vegetables and a faint metallic tinge. Down the drain.........

Draught, as Köthener Pils. Pale yellow colour, very small white head. The aroma is weak, but slightly citric. The flavour is also weak, sourish and uninteresting.

Draught, as Köthener Dunkel. Very slightly sweet aroma. Weak flavour, a bit roasted. The aftertaste reminds me more of a pale lager than Schwarzbier. 5 3 5 3 11

Draught at 16. BBF as Köthener Schwarzbier. Sour aroma. Almost clear dark brown colour. Small stable off-white head. The flavour is also sour. Seems off, but a beer from the brewery’s own stand ought to be OK. 3 3 3 3 3

Bottle (thanks to EithCubes !): Pale golden, white lacing foam; sweet-malty nose combined with a soapy, grassy hoppiness; moderate bitter flavour, light bodied but a bit sticky; grassy bitter finish. Drinkable, but .....forget it !
