Marke Köthener Hell, Hersteller: Pfungstädter Brauerei, Flasche von einer Tankstelle bei Köthen. - Goldgelb, blank. - In der Nase enge, billige und leicht muffige Hopfenextraktherbe und leichtes Süßsauer. - Antrunk schlank süßsäuerlich ohne eigentliche Malzaromen. Nur sehr milde, leicht hopfenwürzige und blaß zitronige Hopfenherbe (das Etikett spricht von Hallertauer). Durchschnittlich rezent, dünn im Mund. Im Abgang matte, schwach ranzige Herbe. - Allenfalls Industrie-Durchschnitt. (6.11.2019.)

I remember having been to Köthen before (in 1991) and tasting some beers of this brewery. First I visited a friend then living in East Germany near Chemnitz, together with jbrus and travelled on, first to Köthen, later on to Berlin. The Köthen beers seemed average, except for a bready helles. And now I renew the acquaintance with this zwickel-pils. Blonde and hazy. Swing top bottle. Firm frothy head, fading away slowly. Light citric but dusty aroma. Medium to full bodied. Malty with a flowery hoppiness and a bit of citrus. Good quality pilsener that IMO has suffered a bit in the bottle.

500ml bottle; BB 17th Jan 19. Drank in my garden on 1st Oct 18. Pale golden body, clean and clear; the head a white affair that didn't hang around too long. Grassy and grainy in nature with a slight herbal feel; not great, but not bad either.
