Bottle at the De Molen second Tuesday tasting. Poured a clear dark brown with a tan head and broken lace. The aroma is roasted malt. The flavour is of caramel, malt and medium bitter. The palate is yeasty with some slightly bitter alcohol burn. Well worth tracking down to taste, but I feel it might become a little sickly after a while.

Location: 750 ml bottle, corked, caged, and wrapped in paper, from The Hop, 10/11/12
Aroma: The nose has sweet malts, some bread, and hints of roast as well
Appearance: It pours a dark reddish color with a small beige head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, it is fairly malty, and has a light hop bitterness present
Palate: The body is medium, it has a soft carbonation, a little stickiness, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: This beer is decent, there's nothing particularly wrong with it, but it is nothing to write home about. The flavors are fine, but nothing stands out. Drinkable. Didn't do much for me.

Bottle, 75cl corked. A finger-thick, beige head forms over a dark reddish tinted brown body. It’s malty and toffee-ish on the nose, with coffee and some resiny, lemon peel-like hops joining in. Really pleasant flavor, some malty, roasted notes as a foundation for the hops, which gives bitterness and resiny flavors. Full body, quite dry on the palate. The finish has toffee and bitterness, the latter most evident. A beer that didn’t impress at first, but after a few sips, I really enjoyed it. Would prefer an even higher focus on the hops though. 111229

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha conglomerate head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Dark chocolate and caramel upfront turning to earthy, bitter espresso in the lasting finish.

clear dark brown, smooth offwhite to beige head. very nice hoppy, flowery hoppy, and sweet roasted malty aroma. flavor is sweet roasted malts, a good dose of balancing hops that are mostly pine and grapefruit but also flovery. The total experience is sweet malty , lots of hops. It is quite sweet for a black IPA.

Dark brown color, almost black. Fizzy aroma, some yeast, and roasted malt. Good body, and good chocolate flavor; strong bitterness, resiny, tickling the tongue; coffeish. For my liking, it’s leaning too much on one side.

Bottle, 13C. Clear dark amber with a beige head. Aroma of stewed fruits, sherry, oranges, leather, toffee - quite old ale-ish with a dash of doppelbock. Sweet with balancing bitterness. Medium-bodied, just slightly syrupy. Very nice modest carbonation. As much dried fruit as caramel, definite aged notes - a touch of sourness as well as oxidation. Some sweetshop/ medicinal spices at the end. After a while the sweetness starts to defeat the finish. Going somewhere unusual for a US beer and pretty much succeeding. Interesting beer.

750ml bottle. Darkest brown with small firm frothy lacing tan head. Dark malty aroma with roasty notes, a touch of chocolate and a fine hoppy overtone. Oily palate with relatively heavy dark malty, roasty and milk chocolate notes that would do well for an Imperial Stout; very late hop notes can’t change its overall character - more Imperial Stout than Black IPA for me. Maybe some hop aroma was lost while "cellaring" this for a while [bottled Jun 28 2011].

Bottled@Black Heart (rockpub around the corner from Brewdog Camden). After ordering all the big abv bottles at Brewdog Camden, it was probably the perfect thing to go and order a big bottle of beer in this cosy pub... Reddish brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is leathery, sour wooden, with some sweet malts and mild earthy notes. Flavour is rather similar in good balance. My notes have a few more sentences added by the end of the bottle, but the coding is too hard for me to interpret...
