Description
Red Duck started on the shores of Lake Purrumbete in 2005. Our first brewery was in the old dairy at Purrumbete Homestead, and when we were building the brewery, there was a breeding pair of Shelducks, with 7 ducklings, that were living nearby. So we named our beer after them.
We engineered and built our own brewhouse specifically to make world class ales. We brew using all natural ingredients. It’s a very hands on brewhouse, that makes hand crafted, real ales.
In the winter of 2011 we moved the brewery to Ballarat, with a view to increasing production and the range of our ales. We are still one of the smallest Micro-breweries in Australia, making on average 500 litres per brew. Our aim is to grow slowly, so we can focus on quality, not quantity.

Pours black with a small, quickly fading head.Nose shows oak, lemon and orange acidic notes, some spicy juniper and a little roast.Oaky flavours too. More roast as well along with an acidic hit, more juniper too. Very gentle roast, the other flavours take over.Needs more carbonation, all but flat at the moment.

Pours black with a large, tan head.Nose shows floral and spicy hops and a little malt sweetness with a hint of roast.Flavours are roastier but still pretty gentle. Some spicy hops but not too aggressive. Finishes with a sharp bitterness that comes off as slightly metallic.Body feels a bit watery.

Pours gold with a quickly fading head.Nose shows a little funk and lenom but it’s not that enticing, smells a bit cheesy.Flavours include brett notes, some malt and little else. Needs some acidity.Too much carbonation.A little plain to be honest.

330ml bottle. Orange amber colour, thin off-white foam head, aroma of malt caramel & citrus resin hop. Biscuity malt taste with sweet orange citrus bitterness with some warming alcohol. Slightly oily mouth feel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, some residual sweetness through to a dry bitter finish. Quite OK IPA.
