Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocoate, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, roasted malt, soy sauce, and wood, leading to a dry roasted, and alcoholic finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a very dark brown - close to black - with a vague tint of orange and a small light brown head. Complex aroma of sweet roast and overripe dark fruit with some alcohol showing. Rich body, roast, a little ashes, dark bitter chocolate. Some brown sugar leading up to an alcohol heat in the finish. From a 330ml bottle on 21/2/2012. Pours a cloudy white with a small head. Has a raspberry cordial aroma. The flavour is just weird - more hints of weak raspberry cordial and some tart lemon notes, but little else. The body is thin and quite watery. Doesn’t really work on any level. Very disappointing given that stuff from Red Duck is usually pretty good.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/12/2011. Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a big head. Has a pleasant aroma of fruit and toffee. Flavour wise, there’s a powerful sweet caramel and toffee presence, along with some citrus fruit. Finishes off with a long hop bitterness. Very flavoursome and one of the most impressive amber ales I’ve had.

Bottle. Dark brown with an instantly vanishing head. Aroma of aniseed, orange peel, nutmeg, dark sugars . Taste is sweet with dark sugar, balsamic vinegar, aniseed, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla. Bitterness with something leafy and peppery at the end as well as woody spices. Spices dominate and to me are a bit overcomplicated.

Bottle. Hazy amber with a pale beige head that fades to a coat. Aroma of nectarines, passionfruit, kumquats, caramel. Sweet toffee with stone fruit and citrus. Oily mouthfeel. The toffee obscures the nice hops a little at the end.

From a 330ml bottle on 14/10/2011. Pours a very cloudy dark orange with some massive yeasty chunks settling at the bottom of the glass. Has a strong sweet citrus (orange) and floral aroma. There’s more sweet citrus fruit in the flavour, with some marmalade, caramel and honey. Has a big hop bitterness with some grapefruit notes. This is a big, flavoursome and impressive APA. Nice work from Red Duck.

Pours black with a large, dark tan head.Nose shows roasted malt, brown sugar and chocolate. Not particularly expressive.Big roasty notes dominate the flavour, along with liquorice and hot alcohol. A bit harsh and somewhat one-dimensional.Carbonation seem pretty full-on.A decent try but a bit rough and doesn’t show the complexity I’d expect from an imperial stout.
