Description
Red Duck started on the shores of Lake Purrumbete in 2005. Our first brewery was in the old dairy at Purrumbete Homestead, and when we were building the brewery, there was a breeding pair of Shelducks, with 7 ducklings, that were living nearby. So we named our beer after them.

We engineered and built our own brewhouse specifically to make world class ales. We brew using all natural ingredients. It’s a very hands on brewhouse, that makes hand crafted, real ales.

In the winter of 2011 we moved the brewery to Ballarat, with a view to increasing production and the range of our ales. We are still one of the smallest Micro-breweries in Australia, making on average 500 litres per brew. Our aim is to grow slowly, so we can focus on quality, not quantity.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, and some honey. The flavor is sweet over ripe fruit, alcohol, flower, and honey, leading to a dry finish. The alcohol burns both the palate and tongue. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Hazy amber color; low carbonation and almost no head. Nice aroma: sweet malt, vanilla oak, some honey (it reminds me the Manuka honey). The mouthfeel is lean, the body strength is average; caramel flavor, but there is a light sour touch that is out of place here, even more in a liquor with a high alcohol presence (too much alcohol indeed). Not bad, but controversial.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Bottle # 160 (?) Pours deep golden with a slight haze and a small off-white head. Amazing and pleasant oak aroma with a hint of honey. Solid body, sweet overripe fruit, caramel and oak with a distinct underlying tartness. Amazing. 080411

Bottle, 8C. Hazy light amber with a rather small white head. Aroma of orange zest, tropical fruits - longans and custard apple (of which I’m not a fan) - a little caramel. Taste is quite sweet and less fruity than suggested by the aroma and decent citrus bitterness come through at the finish. Had the one a bit warmer last night and didn’t like it at all - bigger sweetness and the finishing bitterness didn’t poke out much at all. But cold it’s OK.

Dark brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, earth and a touch of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Not a strong roastiness at all with a little odd earth and caramel taste followed by a vegetable or off-tasting flavour soon afterwards. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a little sweetness and a very odd herbal note toward the end. Overall, not such a great beer, but not horrible when sampled along with food. I sampled this 33 cL bottle sampled at a local pizza restaurant in Port Campbell (Great Ocean Road), Victoria, Australia on 01-January-2010.

Bottle. Pale gold with a fading white head. Aroma of pears and citrus with a little biscuit. Light bodied with prickly carbonation. Taste is slightly sweet with crisp citrus in a dry finish. It was 40C in Melbourne today and this hit the spot very nicely.

Pours hazy light amber with a lasting small head.Nose shows light fruit (apples, pears, grapes) with a little sweet malt underneath. Very light and refreshing.Similarly sweet tasting, with more of the same fruit and light malt. Nice, but could do with some bitterness!Body seems watery.
