10 ounce at the brewery - dark brown, nearly black pour with moderate off-white lace - nose of chocolate, espresso, dark fruit - medium-body - flavor is heavy on the coffee, the bitterness and roast of which get a bit acidic and abrasive on the tail end - the finish is sharp - to me, this is the cardinal sin of coffee stouts and will always get a severe downgrade in score - moderate notes of vanilla and chocolate through the middle, but the finish is all sharp coffee bitterness - coffee does not need to be so acidic! - I’ve yet to make it over to Glissade and this is disincentivizing me.

Pint at the brewery - clear amber pour with a thick white lace - nose is heavy and natural, tart raspberry, with faint underlying hints of chocolate - creamy texture, medium body - flavor is quite tart, bordering on sour, with a lot of raspberry character - moderate bready malt character underneath, as well as mild chocolate, but nothing quite cuts through the tartness and acidity completely - not a winner for me.

Can - hazy orange - nose has deeply completely hop character of dankness and citrus - texture is a bit water and flavor is a little sweet - a lot of hop flavor but the not enough of their bitterness to balance the sugary sweetness - a lot of potential here, as the aroma is inviting but the body and flavor are flabby and lacking.

Pint at the brewery - clear amber - medium body - smooth and creamy texture - rich bready malt, with some caramelized sugar character that doesn’t get overly sweet - lightly herbal hops late - finishes a little more bitter than I like for the style - finish of crusty bread - very clean - were it not for the unwelcome bitterness, this could hit a 4 for me.

10 ounce at the brewery - inky black with a fairly thick off-white lace - nose is heavy on chocolate and roast - creamy texture - full-bodied without being slick and oily, like many imperial stouts of this abv can be - vanilla dominates on the approach, then bittersweet chocolate through the middle and finish, as earthy and toasty malt also settle on the palate - finish of earthy maltiness, light acidity/tannic character, the smallest touch of savory umami character - solid.

Pint at the brewery - lightly hazy orange - nicely dry, piney, resinous, old-school IIPA - dank, citric, peppery - soft and full in the mouth - light orange sweetness on the tail end, with a moderate tangy finishing acidity - tasty.

Edit - original 6.6 - just tried type more recent batch (listed at 12% abv) - this one had a little more heft and complexity, with notes of smoke, fig, umami, espresso - sweetness is not too high and there is a nice balancing bitterness from both the hops and the dark malts - warming, but not boozy - much improved! - 10 ounce at the brewery - black pour with a tan lace - milk chocolate approach, with coffee and cream through the middle and black coffee through the finish - starts sweet and ends with a slight coffee acidity and roast - a bit thin and watery in the finish in particular - not super complex, either - meh.

The Buechel OGs raid the GABF 2023: Poured a hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity, malty. Taste is tangy fruits, mangos, orange, citrus, bitter hops.

Pint at the brewery - lightly hazy amber - nice earthy british malt approach, with moderate caramelized sugars, plum, peat - the heat from the peppers swells up after the swallow and is moderate to high - would not recommend for those who can't handle spicy food - I quite enjoy it and appreciate the warmth in an autumn beer - I also appreciate how they were able to get the spiciness of the peppers into the beer without all the vegetal flavor that you often get in pepper beers - it does start to get a little much about 1/3 of the way through the pint, though - not for the faint of heart.

Pint at the brewery - hazy amber with a fluffy head - nose as coffee, vanilla, light spiciness, earthy/leafy notes - creamy texture - medium sweet - approach is all cream and coffee - light tartness through the middle, then some earthy, toasty pumpkin (or at least the illusion of it) - sweetness returns through the finish, along with some earthy, mushroomy malt that tastes decidedly british in character - I quite dig this.
