Smeg at Starboard - Kobe. Pours clear yellow with a small white foam head. Soft grassy hops in the nose, pale grains, biscuits. Light sweet flavour with steadying grassy bitterness, some grain husk, stare, lemon rind. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with further grassy hops, pale grain, citrus peel. Not bad.

Keg at Starboard - Kobe. Pours clear, pale yellow with a fluffy, pure white head: simple dried cereal in the nose, faint apple, hay. Light sweet flavour with crispy cereal and biscuits, a little dough and honey, low bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Simple finish, some honeycomb, pale bread, more biscuits, cereal, slight bitter straw. Very basic.

RB Saku Session IPA 4.3% 35 IBU A collaboration between Molto and Rokko Beer to celebrate Molto FuKushima’s Anniversary and compliment the sausages they served at their Anniversary Party. Copper color, beige foam and juicy citrus hop bouquet with pine accents. For a Session IPA the body is quite full. The taste is bitter, a bit of a fleeting buttery hint but mostly hops. Not bad.

Tap at Takumiya. Great hop nose--best from Rokko yet. Oranges, biscuits, lots of peaches, very ripe mango. Orange golden color, clear. Sweet, fruity flavor, mango and tropical fruits, a bit funky and dank, biscuits. Very possibly the best beer I have had from Rokko.

Tap at Komachi as Kobe Jukusei Momo Ale. Peaches and biscuity malt nose. Juicy peach flavor, nice tartness. Tasty, creamy, wheat malt. Hazy gold color. A pretty decent fruit beer, not too sweet, with good peach character.

Tap at Kobe Craft Beer Summit 2016. A cloudy light gold with a minty sansho aroma. The taste is light grains, mint, sansho and oranges. Light bodied it has an earthy almost sweet ginger character. Looking over my reviews of sansho beers I was surprised to see consistenly above average scores and so I guess I must like this style.

Tap at the Kobe Craft Beer Summit 2016. A pale cloudy light gold, I kind of feel it’s a lager brewed with peach juice. It’s tart, fruity peach and quite dry. Pretty good.

I had this as my first beer of the day at Ibaraki Bakuon as the Ise Kadoya Autumn Ale was sold out. A golden orange brown with a beige head of foam and a fruity waxy biscuit aroma. The taste was good, fruity hops at first, a touch of biscuit then a crisp finish. My impression though was it wasn’t as malt forward as most Oktoberfest beers.

Tap at Bakuon 16. Orange, a bit hazy, with a fine head. Somewhat strange nose, with caramel, biscuits, oranges, and a bit of medicine. Sweet and creamy, caramel and a bit of butter. Not so well done.
