Deep dark brown coloured body with a relatively thick, two to three centimetre tall light brown head that stays afloat nicely throughout the entire sample with about 50 per cent opacity throughout. Aroma of roasted malt, canella, allspice, cardamom, nutmeg and a lot of sugars here from pitted fruits, all with a strong and deep lactose and creamy bite, especially noticeable at the end, but the spices drive the flavour in a very nice way. Medium to almost Full-bodied; Very strong roasted malts show at first with a lot of coffee and earthiness along with a robust spice characteristic from the allspice and especially the cardamom with a hint of pitted fruit residual sugar that shows at the end and tempers out the noticeable alcohol warmth developing near the tail end with some canella as well that finishes this off nicely. Aftertaste is rich and robust throughout with a ton of spice notes, a good roasted malt characteristic on the back end that drives everything else and of course the sweetness that persists with the roasted malt, coffee and especially lactosey finishes. Overall, a very nice and seasonal beer that hits well with a rich malt backbone and some strong spice notes, but the sweentess throughout makes this balanced and rich and very enjoyable for the season. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 12-November-2021 for US$3,25 sampled at my house here in Washington, just a few blocks away as Winter is coming to a close, on my wife's birthday, 06-March-2022, Happy Birthday Amanda!!!

13th January 2022, part of a flight (8oz pour) in The Lazy Dog, Irvine. Black bodied, tanned topping. Decent enough Porter with a slight vanilla semi-sweetness running through it. Nice surprise to find a Virginia tick on tap while in California.

Virginia Beer Double Elbow Patches Imperial Oatmeal Stout 10.5% While Elbow Patches is a solid example of an oatmeal stout this ramps things up but keeps the same beautiful look. The roasty dark chocolate aroma adds some savory soy and chocolate covered candies fruit. Full velvety body, very smooth but with some boozy heat/warmth in your stomach makes it good for a cold dreary winter day. The taste matches the aroma with sharp berry notes coated in 70% cacao thrown in. Elbow Patches is a nice daily stout while this beast is really good for a special treat.
