Distelhäuser Brauerei
Regional Brewery
in Tauberbischofsheim,
Baden-Württemberg,
Germany 🇩🇪
Associated Venue: Distelhäuser Brauhaus
Established in 1811
In Distelhausen, 23 different kinds of beer are currently produced according to traditional regional brewages. Due to the long-lasting and trustful co-operation with domestic business partners and gastronomy and because of the tight coupling with regional suppliers from agriculture, industry and services, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" considerably supports regional economy in Franconia of Tauber River since the raw materials used are traditionally mainly from the region.
The brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer (Independent Brewers) initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria. As early as 1956 the brewery involved its staff in various forms in the profits.

Cloudy amber, offwhite froth. Caramely and hoppy aroma, a lot of caramel actually. Bisquits too. Fruity, hoppy flavour. More caramel and nice piny bitterness. Not bad.

Lahev(Diky za Černou Perlu!): Almost black, presumably hazy, slowly collapsing off-white head; dryish nose of toasted malt, dried fruits and coffee powder; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, soft, but relatively light bodied; slightly lingering bitter-sweet fruity and toasty finish. Good, but in comparison to the "Loch Ness" disappointing…

Bottle. Black, dark brown cream. Dark burned coffee roast aroma with a herbal edge. Dry, licorice roast flavor-base - a bit heavily so. Medium body, bone-dry mouthfeel - they got the "dry" part of dry stout right. Pumpernickel aftertaste. As it warms up more subtle herbal notes shine through and make it a lot more complex.

Bottle(Diky…!): Almost black, presumably hazy, firm + stable + creamy off-white head; moderate to solid sweet-bitter toasty and chocolatey nose, traces of dried fruits detectable; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, silky MF; lingering fruity-toasty finish with an increasing dry bitterness in the aftertaste. Very pleasant, well rounded stuff…

Dark brown to black. Moderate carbonation, but head retention is poor. A light chocolate aroma, but not much else. Palate is thin with a light creaminess. Taste is of lots of roasted malts. Pleasant, but ultimately unchallenging.

Bottle at home. #22 of my advendkalender. Dark red/brown beer, small head, aroma is roasted coffee, malt, taste is the same, sweet with some bitterness. Ok beer.

Bottle, 5.5%. Mildly roasted aroma. Clear very dark brown colour, red shine. Good stable off-white head. The flavour is caramelly with a nice enough fruit note, a hint of coffee, not bitter at all.
