The word Folly I first associated with Rockliffe's Folly - the slightly lame spin-off to the decent police drama Rockliffe's Babies. This Folly has no flame and is a little lame too. Easy strength with hints of fruit, which is less than appealing, it's very bland in its hoppiness.

At last – a Tay Brew beer that somebody has rated before ! Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours yellow gold with a medium sized frothy almost white head. There’s biscuits, oranges and a hint of chocolate in the aroma. In the mouth it is slightly bitter with a creamy texture and flavours of floral hops, oranges and mango. Later on a little sharpness can be detected plus hints of herbs and pith. Finish is slightly dry. This is reasonable – though a nit bland.

9/10/2025. Cask at the 2025 Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival. Decent pour. Nice floral, citrusy, orange aroma. Touch herbal, gooseberry, hedgerow. A little sweet. Quite nice.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a cloudy very pale straw with a greenish tinge and minimal almost white head. Citrus to the fore in the aroma alongside lemon and grapefruit. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with some sharpness and a creamy texture. Citrus again in the flavour plus lemon, melon and tropical fruit. Later it becomes quite spicy and there are hints of kiwi too. This is decent – eminently drinkable.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours lemon yellow with minimal foamy almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly herbal with some mint but also hints of tropical fruit. In the mouth it is decidedly sweet, slightly juicy and also a tad watery. Not really a lot of flavour at all, though there are traces of light citrus, nuts, tangerine and (later) some spice. A little bitterness in the finish. Pleasant, but not much character.

On tap at Cobbles, Sandbach (not yet listed on RateBeer). Pours a cloudy lemon yellow with a small foamy white head and good lacing. There’s nuts and citrus in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sharp and juicy with plenty of floral hops and citrus. Grapefruit and lemon also come through later, whilst overall it sweetens a bit, leading to a tangy finish. This is reasonable and unlike many beers of this style you can actually tell it’s an IPA ! Still wasn’t particularly keen on it though.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours golden yellow with a small off-white head and good lacing. Just some generic citrus in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet with a creamy texture. Flavour has floral hops, mandarin and grapefruit with just a touch of bitterness in the finish. It’s OK but I would expect single hop beer to actually have more punch to it.

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with a small cream head and good lacing. The aroma has roasted malts, honey and coconut. Roast malts again to the fore in the mouth where it is slightly sweet but with some underlying bitterness. There’s also some coconut and hints of spice liquorice and chocolate, leading to a tangy finish. This is a decent beer but somewhat generic.

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very cloudy pale straw wit minimal white head and good lacing. There’s citrus andmelon in the aroma plus hints of floral hops and lemon. In the mouth it starts off sweet and juicy but very quickly citrus sharpness comes through eventually becoming quite bitter. Flavour has grapefruit mainly plus mango and kiwi. Finish is bitter and a bit sticky. Not bad at all, but not really my sort of beer.
