Description
Within our walls, we have been talking about beer, hops and malt since 1746. Founded by Jean Hatt at 22 rue des Veaux, the Esperance brewery remained active until 1863 and then closed its doors. After more than a century of slumber, beer-making began again in 1991 and the establishment was reopened to the public under the name Au Brasseur. Concerned about preserving tradition and perpetuating ancestral know-how, almost 30 years later, we continue to develop and produce all our beers ourselves.

28/XII/24 - on tap @ Au Brasseur (Strasbourg), BB: n/a (2024-1333)

Deep red brown beer, aery irregular light beige head, unstable, falls down quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: good roasted malts, a hint of chocolate, some caramel, ripe to overripe banana, yeasty, spicy touch, some coriander. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: malty start, gentle roast, bitter, some cold coffee, musty, a bit stale, dusty, some coriander. Aftertaste: bitter, soft roast, some cocoa powder, again with the coriander, cardboard, stale, don’t like it very much, and yet it was the best of the 5 beers we’ve tried. Oh boy.

28/XII/24 - on tap @ Au Brasseur (Strasbourg), BB: n/a (2024-1332)

Clear copper orange beer, creamy yellowish to light beige head, pretty stable, a little adhesive. Aroma: dirty, lots and lots of sulphur, sewers, spicy, coriander and cloves, some nutmeg maybe. It’s like the jacked up version of the Ambrée, and not in a good way. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots and lots of cloves, coriander, some nutmeg, dry, a bit malty, unpleasant bitterness. Aftertaste: a bit sourish, very spicy, cloves, all cloves, nutmeg and coriander, dry, some bread crust, bitter finish. Pretty bad.

Clear orange beer, creamy yellowish head, unstable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: some orange peel, a bit oxidized, malty, some honey, and again, lots and lots of coriander, a bit floral, some cloves. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very spicy, coriander, cloves, bitter, watery, a bit grassy, some caramel malts. Aftertaste: bitter, spicy, lots of coriander, bubble gum, watery, dry finish, bleh. None of these beers are very convincing…

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy dark brown with short lasting beige head. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, earthy funk, dead leaves, soft dried plums, mineral. Light sweet and medium bitter. Under medium bodied. This one has a light infection obviously, but it’s actually not too bad.

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy straw with big white head. Coriander, wheat, lots of dry grainy notes and dusty herbs, wheat flour, light lemon, cloves, almonds. Light sweet, under medium bitter and soft tart touch. Just medium bodied and slight dry feel. Pretty decent actually.
