Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Pours thick and dark with a frothy deep tan head with light lacing. Nose is dark chocolate, bourbon, roasted malt and a hint of ground almonds. Taste is a sticky feast! Dark chocolate fudge, butter, a nicely balanced bourbon hit, a touch of slightly bitter coffee, a hint of vanilla and roasted malt. A touch of sour red berries comes out as the beer approaches room temperature. A nice mix with a classic Bellwoods density and slick stickiness. A great dessert IS but not over-the-top sweet. Some nice balancing. A big fan.

Low tan head on a near black body. Nose is rich dark chocolate with cream and roasted malt. Dark Chocolate, chocolate syrup, butter, roasted malt, a hint of rye and some coffee bitterness. Dense, slightly sticky body, in characteristic Bellwoods IS style. Sweet but well balance for a dessert stout. Sustains really well.

Low tan head on a near black body. Nose offers up the rum casking, roasted malt and coffee, a hint of coconut, and the advertised molasses and a touch of cherry. Warm and slightly fluffy mouth feel. Dense and a bit sticky. Well balanced blend of the rum and other elements from the nose. Cherries take on a bit of sourness in the aftertaste. sustains well. Another great Bellwoods IS.

There was a time when this would have been a pretty hoppy IPA. Not complaining though. Nice, crisp, fruit based accents on a soft malt base. The hazy light straw body hints at strong citrus notes with a bit of pineapple bite. Doesn't go overboard with NE juiciness.
