Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Can from House of Trembling Madness. It pours hazy yellow - gold with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is musty, funky, barnyard, poopy brett, lemon sherbet, candied orange, dried grapefruit, cloudy lemonade, dirt, damp hay and damp basement. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, pithy, zesty, lemon - lime, cloudy lemonade, grapefruit, puckering, damp oak, white wine, gooseberry, floral, soor plooms, sherbet and some soft bread character. Finish is smooth and sherbety. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Flavourful, balanced and moreish. Very nice stuff.

Panda thanks to Cloin. A mild haze on this gold beer, small and short lived bubbly pale cream colour head. Light palate, a very mild dryness, decent fine carbonation. Light smooth pale malts, a mild creamy sweetness, touch of grain. Smooth light pine hop intro into a pleasant smooth citrus with blueberry overlaid. A mild hop itch on the fairly smooth finish. Smooth then! Could do with a little more muscle and edge but, enjoyed this hop combo and enjoyed this dipa.

473mL can, pours an opaque muddled orange with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of wild yeast, dry-hopping, and a touch of earthy grape must. Flavour has a nice mix of dry-hopping, farmhouse notes, hay, and a touch of musty grape skins. Seems less complex and refined than previous Barn Owls. The grape character doesn’t come through as potently as I wished, and the whole thing feels a bit haphazard. Still good, but not at the height that the series has been.

Regular white picket fence. Hazy and pale. Floral aroma, reminds me of Avling. Earthy hop character, with a slight sweetness in the finish.

473mL can. Pours murky dull gold with a white head. Nice funky wild yeast and grapes on the nose. Flavour has earthy wild yeast, good funk, musty grape skins. It's pretty tame for this series, even after coming to temperature a bit, but it's still really nice. I do wish there was more grape character though.
