Can from the Vineyard, Belfast. Appearance - jet black with a deep crema head. This disappears quickly. Nose - sweet chocolate and malt loaf. Taste - dark chocolate, going into black jacks, lovely start of burnt sugar and almost molasses, but not quite. Palate - roasty texture. Medium to full bodied. Balanced roast on the finish. Good linger. Overall - loveliness, all day long!

Bottle from the Vineyard, Belfast. Appearance - golden to amber. Nicely proportioned head. Nose - orange and burnt biscuit. Taste - brown bread, orange again. Biscuit finish. Palate - crunchy in texture. Light to medium bodied. Dry, balanced bitterness on the finish. Overall - decent example of the style.

[33cl bottle from Beer52.] A glossy cola brown coloured pour with a short lived beige head; attractive aroma of tarry ropes and coffee; light fresh body with roasted coffee to start, followed by chocolate syrup; then an earthy bitterness and toasted grains to finish. A nicely made stout.

Creamy tan head left a good cover & collar on a jet black still body. Malt & bitter fruit aroma. Medium bodied, smooth on the front a sharp dry back. Malt, bitter, roasted, berry & nutty tastes with a tangy finish. Standard stuff.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Spicy and slightly roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of ginger, cinnamon, some dark chocolate, whiffs of coffee. Taste is slightly dry, minimally sweet, roasty and chocolately, dark malty, slightly spicy, hints of ginger and cinnamon, a touch of treacle. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine and soft carbonation, lingering finish keeps all flavours alive. Very nice.

Can from KWM Wines. Hazy dark yellow with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, herbal and moderate hoppy - fruity. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. A bit weird but not bad. 030420
