Austrian Weizenbock, tasted as Rieder Feinster Weissbier Bock; stumbled upon this by coincidence in some Dutch pub deep in the Dordogne region in France. Very thick and frothy, snow white, stable and frothy head, hazy straw blonde robe with pale peachy tinge. Aroma of strong banana milkshake, dough, apple cake, relatively outspoken ‘smoky’ phenols (almost like burning spices or even incense), pineapple, freshly cut pear, cloves, meringue. Sweetish onset – though, expectedly, less sweet than the nose suggests – with a truckload of Belgo-German banana ester next to notes of pear and raw pineapple, fizzy carbonation but still fluffy, bit soapy mouthfeel thanks to the wheat malt. Soft malt sweetish middle, evidently very wheaty, with an elegantly phenolic finish, spicy and a tad smoky, softly bittered by a dash of earthy, slightly grassy hops. Banana and wheaty sweetbread, however, keep prevailing in the end. Correct, classically conceived and very easily drinkable Weizenbock, can easily stand next to the classic Germans in this style.

Raisins, caramel, grains, lightly sour coffee, butterscotch. Very tasty.

Not as bitter as many other IPAs. It’s more like a modest interpretation of the style that, itself, is great to drink.

500ml swing top bottle. Pours a murky orange-brown with a medium, creamy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of wheat malt, caramel, overripe banana and yeast. Sweet flavour of wheat malt, caramel, bread, overripe banana, clove and yeast with a dry, slightly sour finish. Medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation.

Bottle from Merkur. Austrian brewery no.34 Quite bitter ale, actually surprisingly bitter, mixed with fruity sweetness and some caramel. It's okay.
